First of all, yes I have read the "DUST Instructions" but I am still unclear!
I've been playing DUST since the closed beta, but my question is:
Is DUST just a MMOFPS, or is there more to it? I know the relation to EVE, but all I really do is battle after battle, kill and get killed.
The whole planetary, assets and others, is there a real reason, I am missing something?
I am part of a CORP, but they do not allow "None PROTO" to play into the CORP games! IS the CORP Games the goal here?
When I play as a SL I do not participate much, often off the action to tell my team what and where to go. So Air Strikes would be nice, but I have no one in EVE to request a Strike.
I am just trying to use all the resources of DUST.
Thank you for your help! |

There's plenty of missing content that would tie together the Eve / Dust link, as well as make the game more fun and interesting.
Until that stuff does come though, the way you described it is pretty much hitting the nail on the head. Unless you're interested in space Farmville, there's not much to do other than pub matches. |

The goal of the game is what you make of it. There is no "endgame". There is no "direction". The game are the people, and ther interactions you have. The game is what your corp decides its goals are, and what you decide you want to do.

Thing is: Dust is no Sandbox game. Eve Online is. At the moment it is match after match for Dust. At least the FW matches have a little bit of influence. |

You need imagination.
Do you think that the people in Eve use the "content" to drive their activities? No, they set their goals, and then use the "content' to meet the goals.
Yes there is limited content, but you can still use your imagination to get what you want. You can pursue a war without war mechanics. Chase them in PC; target them in pub matches over others. Open communications - set a time and place in FW to duke it out.

I'm truly not trying to be argumentative, but the whole "make your own stories" answer is bad. I could do that with my friends and clanmates in any other game with the same effect. |

Dust is NOT FAIR to any of the new players right now! Match making should have been TOP PRIORITY from the start for ANY game! CCP throws a bunch of guys with very little Sp into the shark tank just to get their kicks! New guys should have seperate maps simular to battle academy. Then they wonder how these guys have 60,000+ kills on the leader board! Dust is SINKING FAST! |

I'm ok with the lobby part. I like that it's a quick way to throw some people together for any kind of battle. What I want is things to lobby for. I'd like more maps, with battle types that are better woven into the backdrop of what each battle is about.
Skirmish and domination are good but they are fairly basic and simple. I'd like varying missions and facilities with various tailored objectives that all of these lobbies of people could be thrown into. Something like what Quake Wars or Enemy Territory did years ago would be a fresh idea for DUST and a console game.
To me that would help solidify the RP part too, since there is more involvement on a merc level. That's kind of what the core of being a DUST merc is about from my impressions. Hired, chosen, or by free will doing battles across the expansive corporate and industrial infrastucture of New Eden. |

Eh...
Well...
I tried to think of a way to dress it up nicely but, yeah, that's all there is to Dust right now. No sandbox. Nothing really worth fighting over. The mechanics for fighting over Farmville assets are kinda lacklustre.
Screwing about and having fun with what's currently on offer is the extent of it. We have no real economy to play with and can't interact with EVE. Planetary Conquest isn't about fighting for planets, it's desperately trying to add stakes to induce more tense play, to try and inject excitement and a higher level of play into battles. |

At present it's a non-persistent lobby shooter with no connection to EVE. By itself there isn't much to recommend it other than the deep skill and fitting system, and as many have noted there are a myriad of defects and issues with the game.
But it's just getting started and most consider development to still be in beta despite being officially released. My hope is that inside a couple years it will become much more than it is now.
I was personally drawn in by the promise of an integration between RTS and FPS. The RTS aspect would use squads or larger units with differing capabilities (CAS, Artillery, Infantry shock troops, AV, Scouts, etc.) to wage war at a high level and each of the units would determine their own success rather than a fixed attack value or random dice roll a in normal RTS games.
I'm sticking around and grinding mainly in the hope that I will some day see that. |

Why not just come back when it's fun for you? I can see the potential in this game, however it is rapidly becoming boring and no fun for several reasons: 1)Proto pubstompers in all game modes 2)All the sodding MCC campers 3)\bugs and glitches, I know the game is not finished but this is a joke! Beginning to wonder if CCP hired some of the DEV team from BF-ú due to all the broken game mechanics (flaylocks for example, or the random spawn inambushthat puts one guy in amongst the ENTIRE enemy team with no hope of survival) 4) I just don't get the point of the game anymore, I made some new friends but even some of the guys I know who played through the beta have had enough. 5) Anyone remember the CGI intro that promised much? Maybe CCP should have worried more about the game then a video for the game!
I really enjoyed the few PC that I could do RL permitting timewise its a great part of the game, sadly the main game has been ruined by the sheer stupidity of randoms coupled with the proto tryhards who must use nothing but proto meaning that anyone else with ADV leve tech is not going to stand much of a chance, I have a proto suit but its a glass cannon right now, I need to spend more SP building up my passives etc but is it even worth it when the game has become such a mess?
I know CCP have never done a FPS before, maybe they should have hired a company with some knowledge of this game style to subcontract rather then try topush it through in such a half arsed fashion:(
Don;t get me wrong,, I think DUST has potential but for the reasons mentioned by myself and others in this and other threads, this game is dying and will die as ppl leave |

I enjoy it for the most part. I've got a great corp and it's fun rolling with them win or lose.
I also enjoy jumping on just to let loose a few MD rounds as I find that weapon a joy to use even when it isn't being terribly efficient. That's one toy that CCP got right from a shear fun perspective.
When I said that I grind mostly for the future I meant that I wouldn't bother capping out each week if there wasn't a larger promise in the future. |
