Now, this got Cat Merc and I thinking about the current implementation of the WarBarge strike in Instant Battles, and we had an idea.
What if, instead of earning a strike every 2500 WP, you had each full squad receive one after 1-2 minutes in the match? They only get that one, so they have to make sure to make it count.
As well, like I mentioned before, getting one would require a full squad, which would provide more incentive for players to squad up rather than trying to lone-wolf.
And yes, I am aware that this would likely need to wait until 48-player battles because the current ones would result in 4 people being shafted under this proposed system. |

At present, it's basically a means for a team that is already dominating to even more thoroughly trash an opposing team.
Look at it this way:
Ace Combat Assault Horizon had a lot of things wrong with it, but one of the things they did right was the Capital Conquest game mode.
In order to attack the enemy HQ, you had to hold a "transmission base" in the center of the map. As long as you held that, you could attack at will.
Now, when the other team's HQ got down to very low hp, the game would allow them to pull B-1 or B-2 bombers that have massive bomb capacity and can pretty much spam the damn things. You had to take back the central base in order to use them, and you had to keep them alive long enough to reach the target, but if you did those two things, they were a game changer.
Orbital strikes via WP don't allow this. Part of the reason all matches end in redlining is there are precious few ways to recover from that. A strike would help push the enemy back so you could make another try, but the only hope of getting one after being redlined is to cover every high point with snipers, which just leads to both sides being needlessly frustrated.
If you had a strike that you could save for that desperate situation and then use it to give yourself an opening to get back into the match, wouldn't that be a better system? |
