Newb Guide to the Mass Driver Scout So canGÇÖt log into Dust for some reason so I think itGÇÖs time to write another guide. This time I will be talking about the Mass Driver. For the longest time I hated this weapon mostly because the broad side of a barn seemed like a daunting target for me to hit. But after practice and I mean a lot of practice I was finally able to kill people more and more. There is something very satisfying about watching a body flying through the air after you land a body shot with a round. And with a light suite you will be able to dash around the map sneaking around corner and landing those shot before they even know whatGÇÖs behind them. For some reason there is the scare factor to this weapon most people will run when you land a shot nearby and not even bother with you till they feel there in a safer spot.
So here what I started with after only a few matches in the Academy:
Minmatar Light Frame M/1-Series Basic Shield Extender x2 Militia Kinetic Catalyzer x2 Mass Driver Militia Submachine Gun Militia Locus Grenade
Total SP spent 566,880
LetGÇÖs talk about the Mass Driver; this weapon is similar to a grenade launcher. Its rounds explodes on impact with anything and I do mean anything. So if a teammate walk in front of you as you fire itGÇÖs going to hurt. The base Mass Driver does 242 direct damage and 116 splash damage with a blast radius of 4.0 meters. Explosive weapons do more damage to armor then shields so shield tanks will take a shot or two to get through. YouGÇÖre not going to be able to one shot people right off the bat but you will be able to get them in 2 to 3 shots. This weapon is almost perfect for the new Academy. The Academy has a ton of corners small area to move around in which make the enemy group together more often allowing your splash damage to do its job.
Skills needed for Mass Driver:
Weaponry 3 Light Weapon Operation 3 Mass Driver 1
Next letGÇÖs look at the suit. The Minmatar are great race for scout suits, they are faster than the other light suits. That combined with them being a shield tanking race will allow us to maximize our movement speeds and defense without having to sacrifice speed. This suit will give use plenty of slot to start with it has 2 high slots, 2 low slots, 1 equipment slot, 1 grenade slot, an infantry light slot and a sidearm slot.
Skills need for Minmatar Light Frame M/1-Series:
Dropsuit Command 2 Minmatar Light Dropsuit 3
Then we have the Basic Shield Extenders. This is your only defensive modules; the reason for this is that the light suits already have a high shield recharge rate. So if you get low just zip around till you find a good hiding place give it the few seconds it needs to recharge to full.
Skills need for Basic Shield Extender:
Dropsuit Upgrades 2 Dropsuit Shield Upgrades 1 Shield Extender 1
Last to talk about it the Militia Kinetic Catalyzer, this little beauty is allows us to hall a** around the battle field. It gives a 5% bonus to our sprint speed, with two of them it takes us up to 8.67 m/s sprint speed. Now youGÇÖre not going to out run a murder taxi but you will be able to outturn a heavy or two.
Now I left two things out mainly because this is really up to you, the sidearm and grenade. For side armGÇÖs you start off with you are only going to have a couple of choices the Militia Scrambler Pistol or the Militia Submachine. The scrambler pistol is a weapon that if you are good at aiming can be devastating at close range. On the flip side you have the submachine gun this weapon sprays bullets and if you close enough most will hit the target. Another option down the line is the Flaylock Pistol, this weapon has seen a recent nerf and isnGÇÖt what is used to be. But if you want to keep up the theme of making stuff go boom then this is the one to go with. Now for grenades you donGÇÖt get any choice to start off with but later on you will get some options.
So where to go from here? Well I would invest some point into getting Flux Grenades this little beauty doeGÇÖs 1200 damage to shield to everyone in the 6 meter blast radius. This will allow your mass drive to focus on the armor that it loves to tear through. After that start work on getting the Advanced Shield Extenders, the more defense you have the better off you are. Then move on to get mass driver to level 3.
Once at level 3 you can now use the EXO-5 Mass Driver this weapon is amazing. You get more hit damage, more splash damage, and larger blast radius. Who would love this weapon, oh yah the people on the other end of it. After you have this I would recommend putting a point into Nanocircutry this will allow you to equip a nanohive. The nanohives are ammo and if there is one thing about mass drivers are you never having enough ammo. These will allow you to stay in the fight longer and you will catch some extra war points from restocking the team.
The last thing to talk about is the Kinetic Catalyzer this thing will be a huge investment just to get to the basic level but it is worth it when you do. At the basic level it gives the same bonus of 5% to sprint speed but the reduction of CPU and power grid is huge. This will allow you to fit more and strong modules on your suit.
Overall this setup isnGÇÖt very complicated nor is it hard to play if you like to blow stuff up and zip around the battle field this is for you. IGÇÖm sure the first time you land a body shot and watch it fly you will be hooked. So suit up, run around, and make things go BOOM!
