Here are some tanking tips that may help. These re some things that I have notices when I have gone tanking.
My fit was a Madrugar with Heavy Supplemental Shield Extender and a converse light shield booster for the high powered. For the low powered I have 180mm nanofiber armor plates, a light IGL armor repairer, and PG upgradesX2 My turrets were all standard Blasters Now here, my HP totaled around 10,000, and this is all standard. You can edit this to your liking.
The reason I put Shields on a Maddy was because nobody would expect it. People can throw AV Andes at it and wonder why it isn't even scratching my shields, the only downside is that for the extra armor, I had to sacrifice a heavy armor repper. This means you have to be on alert for forge gunners, and once you start taking damage head to cover. Now I know this may not work for some people, this is just what worked for me. Since came up with this tank, I have not lost any (maybe one) in 5 matches. This fit costs a little over 400,000 ISK, so you can break even or make a profit if you are careful. Now, I will move on to the tips.
Tip #1: You are not invincible!
Your tank is similar to a heavy, fat, slow, and an easy target that can pack a punch. Now just like a heavy, you need to be smart, don't charge into a bad situation. You are most likely going to end up dead without support.
Tip #2: Be careful who you kill
This sounds odd, but if you kill a guy with a nice, expensive, proto suit, he may want revenge. Also, if you kill someone near theair spawn point/CRU/objective, and you're still there, he will probably spawn in with an AV fit.
Tip #3: Use cover and know when to retreat
This is a little self explanatory. If you see swarms or the glow of a forge gun, move behind cover where you can't get hit. I know this can be frustrating, but it can save you a tank.
Tip #4: Keep moving
This makes it a little more difficult for forge gunners at range to hit you. This also reduces the chance for being hit multiple times by the same person. Now there may be that one forge gunner that is at the best place that can hit almost anywhere on the map, but if that is the case, try to kill him and then retreat to safety.
Tip #5: Timing is key
This is one of the most key ingredients to some good tanking. Don't call a tank once you spawn in for the first time. Observe what kind of AV the enemy has. If it is low tier, go for it. If it is proto, don't risk it. Also, call in a tank when there is a lot of heated infantry battle. Lend your team a helping hand, also, you won't sustain as much damage because the battle is going on with the infantry. Tanks are supposed to be a support role apparently, so use it that way.
I know tankers have it tough, I can't imagine what losing a Million and a half ISK tank would be like, but please acknowledge these tips, and I know a few you guys already know.
These are just my two cents. Thank you. |

Thank you. I thought I was going to get a lot of "we already know this." |

I'm actually not sure if anyone uses these effectively... |

I guess, but this wasn't working for me. I guess I'll give it another shot though. |

JW v Weingarten wrote:small booster and light repairs? good luck in a battle vs a well fitted tank
Yes, I know. But if it is a Gunnlogi with missile, it will have to get trough my shields, if it has a blaster, then it has to get through my armor. Only weakness is railgun. |

Cy Clone1 wrote:Im sure your fit works quite well vs infantry, but as was said already that will not last vs tanks with damage mods, proto turrets and heatsinks. although if you can watch out for other tanks and just recall you might be ok.
You know, you do have a point. So does Weingarten. I haven't encountered any tanks yet. Thank you for the heads up. But what I really wanted to talk about were the tips. |

Yes, I just wanted to say be careful who you kill. So beware if they come after you. |

Of all you new tankers, I've only met one this entire time that could outsmart me and kill me every single time. The other countless tank scrubs were eaten alive due to stupid mistakes (not counting the ones with bad gear bc that's too easy) Ya'll think you're so good bc none of you play PC and have not come across the A-list tankers; we are in the best corps for a reason. Want a good tank battle? Fight Ancient Exiles, Outer Heaven, Internal Error, Red Star, or Team Players....or Murder Cakes of Doom. You will find all the best tankers in one of those corps...except a few randoms in Cronos (Adri Gac, Jason Pearson) To the OP: Your fit sucks and if you understood why, I would respect you at least a little bit because you have not taken your tank to Excel and found out exactly how effective it is- if you did, you wouldn't use it.
Ok. That is just what works for me. It is like going all militia, you have to have skill to survive. Thank you for the feedback. I understand why my fit is bad, it just work for me. |

I am a casual player with only 7 million sp. I can't afford to spec into higher mods. I use what I have. All you guys that were spoonfed information from big corps wonder why scrubs and bluedots suck. Its because they are told what is right and aren't allowed to do anything that they want. Also, people instead of trying to help others try to put them down in saying you suck. Tankers are almost always redliners. I wanted to be different. People like to destroy anything that they can't get a grasp on. They think new is bad. I will edit my tank fit with the information that I have collected and create a better fit. Thank you guy for positive and negative feedback. |
