Currently there are several skills that give no bonuses other than unlocking another skill or a piece of equipment. The result of this is that there are levels of these skills which are completely useless.
For example, the grenadier skill gives no bonus to the grenade user other than the ability to use new grenades at levels 1, 3, and 5. Levels 2 and 4 of this skill feel like wasted sp as a result. To combat this "I'm wasting my time feeling," as well as making Dust's skill system feel more like Eve's (where every level of skill is meaningful) small bonuses should be added to all skills.
Here are some suggestions: Drop Suit Command +1% base movement speed per level Drop Suit Upgrades -1% stamina replenishment delay per level Active Scanner Operation +5% scan range per level Drop Uplink Deployment -1% deployment delay per level Nanocircuitry +1% repair/resuply rate per level Repair Tool Operation +3% repair range per level Weaponry -1% pg usage of weapons per level (I know this is low but maxing it would have a small impact on fitting) Grenadier +1 meter max throw distance on grenades per level Demolitions -1% detonation delay per level
It should be pointed out that CCP fixed this issue in chromosome but brought back with a vengence in uprising. |

these are interesting stopgaps. But yeah, when I saw that there were skills that allowed unlocks without provided bonuses of any kind, I was very disappointed.
Drop Suit Command +1% base movement speed per level - Good Drop Suit Upgrades -1% stamina replenishment delay per level - 5% DELAY is nothing. make it bigger or change it to a different bonus. Active Scanner Operation +5% scan range per level - scan speed would be better than range here Drop Uplink Deployment -1% deployment delay per level - make it 2% maybe. Or a fittings bonus instead. Nanocircuitry +1% repair/resuply rate per level - too small to be useful for many weapons. perhaps decrease pulse/resupply interval, or make it a 5% radius increase. Repair Tool Operation +3% repair range per level - Good. Repair amount would also be good. Weaponry -1% pg usage of weapons per level (I know this is low but maxing it would have a small impact on fitting) - bad, as well as practically useless for non-proto weapons that hog PG. 1% damage, or increased reload speed would be better here. Grenadier +1 meter max throw distance on grenades per level - good Demolitions -1% detonation delay per level - for 'delay', needs to be bigger to have value. Or make it a small increase to detonation radius.
The skill tree as a whole definitely needs work. |

I think the for some skills not adding bonuses is fine. That at 1,3, 5 unlocks tiers of the equipment while 2 and 4 are intermediate buffers. That to get you 1 step closer without immediate gratification. Dust's skill tree needs work but we don't need to spam bonuses to everything just at least making getting to that level worth it such as Dropsuit Command where there is no bonus and no reason to go past 3 since there are no more unlocks. Dust 514 is not EVE we don't need more reasons to make vet players even more overall better off than new players. |

I like your proposal, but balancing the whole game is difficult, give a +1% or a -1% to something can change more than we think. |

It's one thing when they only unlock another tier of suit/vehicle/weapon/equipment, it's another when all they unlock is other skills. "You don't have the skill to put SP into this skill" - WTF is that? |

Grenadier, Nanocircuitry, Drop Uplink Deployment, Demolitions, and Repair Tool Operation all have unlockables at Levels 2 and 4, so they are not wasted SP in the sense that nothing new is gained at these levels.
Nanocircuitry has the added hidden bonus of a 5% reduction in CPU usage of nanohives/injectors per level.
It would be nice to have bonuses to all skills that are purely unlock, but not necessary in my opinion. |

There's more on the vehicle side, as well as some pretty useless ones (like the engineering skill). |

More skill bonuses would be nice but like shaman said, they might completely unbalance the game. |

I agree which is why I have suggested that all of the bonuses remain quite low. It is much easier to tweak a value up rather than down if it has too little of an effect. I for one feel like any bonus, even a tiny one would be a benefit that I would be willing to spend sp on at some point so even changing them to +/- .5% (which is unlikely to have any major effect on the game) would feel valuable. |
