There is a lot of misconception here bout the forge gun. The forge gun is not an AV weapon or an Anti infantry weapon. The forge gun is by design an anti material weapon; therefore, making it do less damage than it does to infantry is, at the least, a breach of it's intended role. Forge gunners on buildings get kills yes; but are by far neither unkillable or uncounterable. A sniper can easily make a forge gunners life miserable; as well as a steady stream of Dropships getting his attention so that the team can get forward. Having High ground, with any weapon is by QQ definition OP because it is what gives the user the upper hand.
To expand a little bit on the concept of having the upper hand wilst being on higher ground I'll set this example. A forgunner cannot use his weapon against infantry easily on equal ground, but if the forge gunner is on stairs or on say a building, the reason people say they are OP, then they gain an advantage. Now, let's say a plasma cannon is on the pipes; a weapon that does a considerably similar splash damage and radius than the forge gun does, it will have the same effect against infantry. Now let's say for instance some infantryman is on the pipes wielding an assault rifle. He can easily take potshots at enemies doing an excess of 50+ damage per shot at 750 RPM effectively killing an enemy and taking cover when the situation does not suit him. Now lets say that same infantryman where to use a scrambler, laser, grenades etc; he would use higher ground to a similar effect.
The forge gun, as it stands is a heavy weapon that requires the use of a heavy suit. As we all know these suits are slow, suffer from terrible fitting options and die to almost any weapon in the game; easily. Wilst using the forge gun you are entrapped by few play options and little maneuverability that causes a loss in kill potential in most maps that do not have a high and, considerably safe, vantage point.
SNIPING
Sniping is a part of life in dust. Sniper will tell you that "shadowing" is the best way to find targets. Now for the sake of those who don't know what shadowing is; it's when you can see an odd shape on the structure that should not be there. This makes forge gunners from building be highly visible to snipers from amateur to pro's. With a tactical sniper rifle and just two points into sniping a player can effectively disrupt the operations of a building or high terrain forge gunner by continually applying damage and eventually killing them if they don't have reps, which most don't.
To end this seamlessly steady stream of crying over everything I suggest and urge players to actually think about how they are going to take care of a situation instead of Having CCP eliminate is from the game. This same problem has created a monotonous stream of nerfs that creates unbalance to the game itself. I really hope the people that ask for a nerf actually think about what is happening and how they can counter it before they post in the forums.
To the writer of this topic, I share your view and think people would not be happy till they get their charged hug cannons so they don't have to think outside the box. |
