Because a lot of us MAG veterans were in the closed-beta phase of Dust 514, and our contributions helped shape the game into what it is today GÇö for better or for worse, depending on one's perspective. Being a MAG veteran is special in the FPS community, IMO. Why? Because when it comes to FPS console games, we're the only ones to have truly experienced massive battles. MAG Domination, anyone? 256 players, huge maps, strategies required to win. Oh, and don't forget proximity chat. God, that was great, prox chat! Mag vets are a joke. If I remember correctly it was the mag vets in closed beta that everyone would point and laugh at. When i hear 'MAG' i think of the biggest moron in this game: Contrabanjoe. MAG Vet? They are as irrelevant as the garbage game was. If it wasn't for MAG, I wouldn't be interested teaming up with random squads and play as a team. As you can see, this game is becoming COD garbage because of other players not going into the objectives and just snipe from the farthest region of the map and the highest mountain of God knows where. In MAG, there is such thing called team kill, if you camp like a pus sy, my bullet will be aimed on your head. MAG was a huge failure of a game lol You really think anyone here wants the so called 'knowledge' of players from a game that tanked extremely hard and extremely fast? I sure as hell dont. DONT ruin this game and make it any thing like that POS game CCP, unless you want dust to fail as horribly as that game did.
I don't think it tanked "Incredibly fast" as you put it for a console shooter.
It was released in January of 2010. This was not too terribly long after MW2 launched and yet it still was able to pull numbers of 20,000 players+ in every game mode at peak hours. At any given time you would see 10,100. That is 10k in each of the three initial game modes, at any time for 30k concurrent players, 6X even the peak amount you see across the board in Dust.
Of course these numbers dropped off after the 1.3 patch to where you might on see 13k in any given mode at peak hours, but getting into a game was instantaneous.
The game outlasted MW2, it outlasted, Black Ops, and even after the release of MW3 and BF3 nearly 2 years later you could still get any game mode you wanted, albeit you would have to wait a few minutes for a dom, but there was generally still a domination match or two going on at any given time.
To this day there are still just almost as many players playing MAG as there are playing Dust, and Dust has only been out for what, 2 -months-?
MAG is literally 24 times older than Dust and yet Dust can barely stand with MAG numbers even a year after Zipper closed down due to its own poor choices in the latter part of support for MAG, the development of S4, and Unit 13.
Saying MAG tanked "incredibly quickly" after 3 and a half years while somehow Dust is fantastical for having barely any more players than its cousin simply because of what many here have called "potential."
You people keep on using that word. I do not thin it means what you think it means....
Hint: Potential is not something that CCP has exclusive rights too, nor is it something they keep locked up in a closet to ferment while they wait for the most opportune time to unleash it.
