With the new rapid release schedule for DUST it means that we work on things in what we call sandboxes and when the feature is ready for release we move it from the sandbox to an area we call main. Once that is done it will go out with the next release. For us this is amazing as it means we can more comfortably delay individual features until they are ready instead of having to rush/force it out or delay a scheduled release.
What this means for you guys is that we want to talk to you guys about we are working on but for us to continue doing that in an open fashion we really need you guys to be understanding in that things may be a bit more likely to slip a little bit. At the same time since we are releasing far more often a slip doesn't mean waiting another 6 months.
With all that said what is coming in 1.4 is still just rumors. Told you guys what we are working on but still not confirming what is coming in 1.4 :P
We totally understand this dude. Don't take it too seriously we just like to know what is being worked on, not necessarily whats is and is not going to be done by 1.4. Thanks for the info. |

If you guys could just have someone post your "Actively working on possibly for 1.x" list of "Need to Have" "Want to Have" or whatever that you guys use in weekly dev meetings then the community will be very understanding if something ends up getting knocked off. As it stands you guys seem to content lock a patch and then it takes 2-3 weeks before we see patch notes a week prior to the patch. We'd rather see a list of draft patch notes for 1.4 like... today. And we totally understand what DRAFT means. It can even be something crazy like "Caldari logi - will be adjusted" "Flaylock pistol - will be tuned down" ... that kind of thing.

huh?
I only have a dim understanding of what is coming with 1.4; map some buildings maybe a suit.
After that it is only darkness.
We have no friggin idea what you guys are working on...hell i have a clearer idea of what features Elite Dangerous will have in future expansions and that game does not even come out until 2014. Ditto fro Star Citizen....hell ditto for Bioshock infinite DLC and that game makes zero claim about its development being open with its player base.
To imply that you have ever been open in any sort of "fashion" is complete BS. |

for all the updates CCP should choose 100-200 people (different people each time) to be allowed to enter into a "snapshot" (like minecraft uses) essentially a preview/test of the next update, maybe just like 1 week before, they wouldn't have to participate, but it would give them a chance to share the patch notes 1 week before the update, since we don't get all the patch notes until the update actually comes out :D |

Would love this. Exactly like the Faction Warfare changes post for example. Telling us what is planned. And telling us "May or may not be released late this year" This way we know what the developers think about and what changes we can expect in the future.
For example I would also love to see a post about PvE, even if it ends with "May be released in late 2014 or later". Nice sideeffect: It would keep Dust 514 in the news. I personally write News and articles for a gaming website and I didn't even bother taking the time to write about some balancing changes in 1.3. I did take the time though to write a news about the planned Faction Warfare changes. Because this is actually something which is interesting for more people than just the hardcore gamers. Heck: It may even attract new players. |

howard sanchez wrote:What exactly is meant by the term "Corp Roles"? I find it odd that there are many players who seem eager and excited about this development. It doesn't sound very pertinent to the overall needs of DUST at the moment.
What are corp roles and how would they impact gameplay?
In EVE you can makeup Corp Roles for members. So you make a title called "Banker" or whatever, and he has normal privileges, but also can manage the corp wallet. You can makeup any title you want and assign specific rights, and then when someone is given that title they are allowed to do only what it lets them.
Idk if this would be how it is in DUST, but just having Corp Tax will bring huge amounts of revenue for large corps.... because it takes away a percentage from all rewards gained.... so those who never donate will now always "have to" donate after every match. If this game wasnt such crap, and actually had a wide audience.. i would make a corp just to farm the noobs winnings. (20% Tax MUAHAHAHA)
But as far as Corp Roles go.... It wont actually change anything corp wise, just now people will be a knight, or a templar, or a knave within their corp. |

I suspect it is content locked; 1.3 was content locked a week after 1.2 came out.

A big crowd of people who want to sacrifice all their time for this game! even in this state we are a hardcore crowd so use this.

Apparently the gaming community is pretty temperamental.
If I was a game dev I would also be freaked out as hell having to deal with a group of people that around the next corner might transform into ravenous psychopaths.

Technically the research outpost is an outpost (large socket). We should see it on Iron delta, spine crescent, and skim junction. Also there will be a new map supposedly. It is unknown how it will function with a large socket though.
What would be cool though if it was a canyon, with two large sockets on either side and hard to traverser lower areas from which to assault. |

Yep. Right now we have 12 'major' "map experiences" with some extra 'flavors' due to a few rotating medium sockets..
There are 3 maps with large sockets (Skim junction, spine crescent, iron delta), and 3 maps w/ no rotating large sockets (ashland, line harvest, manus peak). The single objective sockets are normally just medium sockets. They rotate a bit on some maps, but potentially could provide mroe variety. So 3 'dynamic' maps x 3 large sockets for them = 9 'experiences' + 3 more static more/less maps. Manus peak has 2 medium sockets that vary a bit, though.
With 1 new map, 2 new medium sockets, and 1 new large socket, that will make a total 4 dynamic maps x 4 sockets = 16 + 3 'experiences'. Plus if they get all of the medium sockets to rotate appropriately, that can be ~ + 5-6 more effectively different map 'flavors'.
So with the new patch we are going from about 12-15 'map meals' to 20-25. The game SHOULD start to feel much more dynamic. However each map also has to have fair borders and variants for each game mode as well.
