Agreed with OP. And the fact that the OP don't get any fanboy bash, rantings or deep explanations to why OP is horribly wrong kinda confirms it.
On the other hand, it's the middle of the summer for most here. And I didn't expect a full release of Dust until autumn or winter anyway. Dust is virtually still in beta. If they can get their act together and practically come up to a full release level sometime this year, they can still make it. But I am worried. There are some really good games in the pipeline right now. And because of the generation shift imminent they cannot afford more delays. If it only was 2012 now...
If/when Dust dies, I'll go back to Raptor:call of the shadows. |

The release of the PS4 is irrelevant, because you still have people with a PS3. Many people won't even buy a PS4 before there are enough games released for it. And so many will probably only start thinking about buying one as soon as the PS4 Slim is being released. And even then their PS3 won't suddenly stop working and many of the PS4 owners who also have a PS3 will boot up their PS3 every now and then. Maybe they will even just boot it up to play Dust.
I would REALLY appreciate when people would stop thinking that the upcoming PS4 release is the end for Dust. Totally agree. I will keep mine. But it is a problem that the de facto release date slips away and will potentially be after the next generation arrives. The game wont die because of that alone, but it wont gain the same reception it could if it was within the current gen status. And thinking of how the progress has been and looks to be... it might actually be the last nail in the coffin. They were simply too late, just as the OPs thesis. |

I strongly disagree with peeps saying this should go for PC (computer). The whole point of making a new game in the same universe that is vastly different and on a console is to attract a whole new player base. I'm really surprised by how many EVEO players there are here. Sure, the F2P business model may suit better on PC, and especially a game of this type - from CCP - that should be in constant development with frequent updates and expansions. But Sony are themselves releasing a F2P game, and some more are on the road, which means the industry is aware of this, most importantly the console maker. Much have happened in the gaming industry during the time the PS3 has been around. Changes have been substantial. Back then there where virtually no smartphones. I think there is room for a game like Dust on a console. Heck, there _has_ to be. If not, there is no need for consoles at all. PC and handheld devices could fill the void. Sony and MS must make sure they are still relevant for gaming, and kinda reinvent the market. They must make an effort to show everyone that they have the best gaming platfrom. They can't expect to be that. So far, Sony have done very well IMO.
Back to Dust. The point is to break new borders. Not make something that has already been iterated dozens of times.
Kb/m support is as far "PC" suport goes. I hope. If they go PC totally, me and everyone I convinced trying Dust are gone for good. |
