I'd like to start this by saying that I have limited experience so far with the Commando, though I have tried out a number of weapon and equipment sets and definitely have a base feel for the suit, as well as an idea in my head of how it will continue to play out, should I decide to go up to the advanced suit.
Right off the bat without digging into stats (which I'm honestly not all that good at) the biggest thing that hurts the Commando is losing the grenade slot. However, having an equipment slot seems like a descent tradeoff. Once you get the suit out into the field however, it feels apparent, to me, what the issue with the Commando is:
One equipment slot
Why is this an issue? Simple: it requires 2 equipment slots to perform a focused "role" in most (though not all) circumstances. With only one equipment slot, the Commando can heal, but he can't revive. He can lay down explosives, but he can't restock them. He can drop Uplinks, but not many, or without a useful scanner by his side. Sure he can lay down nano hives, but can he also put a deployable shield next to them?
The Commando lacks presence outside of extremely small niches, at least from my general observations. Please point me in the direction of threads or posts that suggest otherwise, as I have missed them. With two equipment slots, it wouldn't step on the toes of Logistics suits as you'd be much more focused and still limited by your mobility and lack of modules. You would be able to better customize your specific role, something obviously desired with the use of two light weapons. |

Weren't you running Commando when we ran into B together the other night?
IDK what equipment you were running if you were, though I do know it would've been nice if you'd have been able to pick me up after that shotgunner put me down while hacking.
We very well may have been able to doubleteam that objective if I could've only stayed on my feet just a little longer.
If the Commando Dropsuit is supposed to be a Commando, it would stand to reason that they have a nicer bag of tricks, therefore I agree with your proposal.
After all, they're the "*****" Heavy specialization (which is to say "weaker"). |
