I do my sniping in a heavy suit - tend to call a LAV to get to my perch if I need to (and even use the LAV as cover in some circumstances - actually no, only got spotted doing this about once in ten games!). So if I screw up and get sniped, baring a strong charged shot (and if I have an upgraded even that might not one shot me) I can often pull back and still keep learning the tricks of sniping, instead of waiting ten seconds and alot of manouvering to continue learning the sniper trade. |

Go for a shotgun as well, make an alternate suit for a shotgun scout fit. Also for sniping, you could hunt down people using the buildings to get an overview of the whole map. Easy to spot them getting up there, follow the dropship.
This is Sareyne, btw. :P |

HA! Hey Sareyne! :)
I've gone down the Logi route and it's more successful for me at the moment than scouting.. i'm still getting my ass handed to me but i think that's down to lack of game experience and low SP. Thanks for the ideas for shotgun scouts too, i'll give it a go. :) |

If you do go back to sniping a controller like this can make a huge difference: http://www.amazon.com/AIMON-PS-Wireless-Mouse-PC-PS3/dp/B0044B6WYE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375943221&sr=8-1&keywords=tuact+aimon+ps.
The other thing to keep in mind is that there are hit detection issues at the moment. There are several threads around here about it but the gist is that the faster people move, the further their hitbox lags behind them. If you are able to aim well at a running target you will often miss but if you aim slightly behind them you will often hit. Knowing this has helped my sniping immensely. |

I really hate being negative, so I actually hate myself for what I am about to say. DUST514 is primarily PvP, there is absolutely no pve and the incoming pve content has actually faded to rumors. If you are getting your butt kicked, find a different game. It will take you forever to get good and even if you do CCP is going to update and make you change it up.
Let us be realistic, the whole game is highly competitive PvP. If you are facing a dropping kdr in public matches while you are in a squad with corp mates and you haven't gone positive in 23 games, it is time to throw in the towel. |

Well i think this has solved my issues...
Severance... i see what you're saying but nobody got anywhere by just giving up and moving on to something else. Practice makes perfect and that's exactly what i've been doing. Using the skills i already had i branched into a Logi suit with either a MD or AR and i've been seeing a BIG difference in how i affect gameplay with use of stim packs and reps, not to mention hives and links too. And if there's a sniper on the field i usually swap back to a counter sniper role for a clone or two to help out the squad, and this is becoming more enjoyable too. Still using the Logi guide on here to guide me through what skills are needed and it's VERY good.
Don't feel bad by the way Severance, it's good to have an opinion and even better when people understand that it's an opinion and not the rule. :) I appreciate your comments so thank you.
I've seen a noticeable improvement, mainly from getting used to maps, being in a decent squad with experienced leadership (thanks corp/alliance) , and of course becoming more familiar with the controls and mechanics of the game itself.
Thanks to all of you for your positive comments and constructive criticism. Dust is finally the game i thought it would be, and still enjoying even when you're getting hammered by a Proto squad of heavies and mass drivers. ^_^ |
