CCP's already in a tough spot.
1.4 might be CCP's last leg. The bell lap of the race.
I honestly HOPE there's new content in 1.4 and not just fixes. People are grateful for the minor fixes, but the lack of content and the lack of reason to play other than grinding SP is chasing people away.
Look I have all the stuff I need for my role and then some, so SP grinding means nothing anymore. I'm a competitive gamer and came here for PC and corp matches. Now PC is dead.
I have no new heavy suit to skill into, I have no new pistol I want to try. I have no new map to play on. I have no new game mode to tryout. I have no reason to play FW.
These are problems that existed for far too long.
Now this isn't just about a "doom and gloom" post. There were some decent points made by the CPM. I'm sure IWS will post all the Q&A.
But this quote is what grabbed my attention cuz if the CPM knows this, then CCP knows this. So I hope they realize adding new content will go a long way in keeping some players playing DUST. |

I'm not a huge competitive gamer myself, and I only came to Dust because of what it promised, I could care less about multiplayer, I hardly ever play it.
Dust can still be fun for me, and I'll stay with it. Hopefully 1.4 will be good, but I'm not expecting anything HUGE.
but... DUST is a muti player only game.... |

Where are the Merc's / Pirates groups? Where have all the districts gone? PC is dead because people who decide to be under the same TIT wont man up and do their own things. This game is about being A MERC, not a damn corporation. I don't see why people blame Corps / Alliances, im not just saying this cause im in one but we played the game we were given, there are no merc options, oh we can transfer money to each other? Cool so i can pay people to take land for me, which alliances do they take land so why pay someone? People need to stop looking at the players/corps/alliances as ruining this game and more at CCP for lack of content, lack of merc options and most of all driving players away with a game still in beta. This is not the players fault. This honestly is both the players and CCP's fault. Keep staying under the same alliance only to find out that you will all get bored one day because you have no purpose to fight or anything for that matter to contend on. Think about it.
I honestly don't see how alliances killed PC. There's more than 1 alliance. This isn't a socialist convention going on in MH. If you don't want to join an alliance, get good enough to get noticed so people can hire you! If you're a nobody, then nobody needs you.
Don't want to merc, and want to be part of PC, join a corp involved with PC. |

as i told IWS, CCP has good ideas, but their common sense seems to be the problem. The bonus for some suits, the way some weapons work, the poor balance between shield and armor...
The Flaylock was OP since i first saw it. A couple people made threads about it, then what? They got told to HTFU and got trolled. In the end the FLP was OP after all huh... funny.

We still have 4 maps, and the limited amount of weapons to choose from. I get your point, but we don't have a BF2142 type of Gibraltar map or Titan (MCC for Dust) boarding to really force choke-point (indoor) battle lines either (maybe we'll discover that Nova Knives really are OP?). I'm just a bit bitter that we lost our 'Rush' conquest game mode even though it has been considered a standard team FPS element for many years. As for Eve tie-ins, I doubt the people who code FPS core mechanics are the same ones building "new" game-modes or tie-ins with Faction Warfare or PI or SOV mechanics. I wouldn't be surprised if 1.4 included some additional Eve tie-ins.
Don't think the CCP fanboys would be thrilled to have Titan mode from BF 2142 in their precious DUST. You'll get the same old reply of "GO BACK TO BF AND COD!"
In reality that reply is archaic as DUST feels. There's nothing wrong with borrowing ideas from other games and adapting it to fit in another.

Even if I had everything I wanted specc'd into, I'd still play, because it's a game, that's supposed to be fun.
I don't play for SP, I don't play for ISK and I certainly don't care about "being better than X Corp". The pissing contest can take place in the bathroom, I'm in the game room having fun.
That said, the fact that people are clamouring for new content is a good sign that the core game is better than it was.
that's the thinking of a casual player, while I won't judge you and call you a scrub for it, you shouldn't say competitive gamers are involved in a "pissing contest".
Humans are competitive in everything, it's a natural thing, almost a survival instinct.
The biggest / most popular corps in this game are competitive corps. Without them, the game would lose at least half the active player base. These competitive gamers are the ones spending the most money on this game in order to keep up with the SP race. What do casual players do? Play a couple pubs a week, might spend a couple dollars here and there.
What gives this game its longevity is suppose to be PC (Planetary Conquest). Without that, this game is nothing more than a mediocre lobby shooter with no meaning.
So I don't know why you look down on competitive gamers. |

The problem isn't PC, the problem is its current mechanic, and the fact that people are leaving the game.
It won't be such a farmville snoozefest if there were people fighting over the land, and to address your other argument, IF the land had value for EVE players.
Fact is, EVE players don't really care about DUST. They have no reason to. So who's gonna pay mercs to do anything in DUST?

What we can do is steer them in the right direction when they take a wrong turn: cal logis, flaylocks, fused nades, murder-taxis, amarr logi, etc etc
While it's true in a practical sense, I would have to ultimately disagree. CCP has all these ideas in their heads about where they want to go and what they think that next step is. The problem is, we are taking the step and they are watching the reaction. I believe this relationship should be deeper and that rather than being reactive we become proactive. What do we want to see in a month? 2 months? 2.0? A year? To begin with, I see features like PC and FC having lots of potential for long-term growth, but initially a very confined experience. Personally I believe the 2 features that need to be implemented are: - Secondary Market ---> Evolving value of ISK and the essence of universal player interaction. Very clear, numerical measures of inflation, unbalanced equipment, weapon popularity, etc. Lot's of value for everyone to look at. - Boarding Parties ----> Simple, small maps aboard ships spawned by a Eve Weapon, "pod-launcher". Time-sensitive missions with a chance of opposing PvP (if clones aboard)...engaging and vital opportunities to cause real problems and destruction in New Eden (even if only allowed in High and Low-sec). Also allows for a highly desirable feeling of depth and accomplishment along with a sense of unknown and exploration. I am confident that if we could even get a basic version of this in 2 months, we could launch this game into unlimited potential. We become self-aware on the market and in a grander scheme, we become living ammo...and ammo sees a lot of action in New Eden.
Sorry but CCP has shown on many occasions that they outright ignore feedback. Hell, Uprising was a slap in the face for ALL the beta testers who gave feedback. Vehicles were / are terrible among other things that people spent time and allot of effort to try and "steer" CCP in the right direction.
At the end of the day, we can cry, *****, scream all we want, it's up to CCP to take the path they choose for the game. And while it's convenient for some to blame the playerbase for CCP's failure, you can't be blind to the fact that we're not making the game, and putting an exclamation mark on it.
For example, and this is my favorite one, people cried so much about contact nades in closed beta. It DOES NOT belong in ANY FPS. CCP took it out closed beta, and brought them back in recently (2-3 months ago, or longer?). After the community made it VERY clear that those things don't belong in the game, CCP still decided to bring them back. Ignoring the community yet again. |
