Now the subject header your using is kinda confusing. You've actually asked 3 separate questions so I will answer each individually.
Q1: "...why login if you don't want to play?"
My Opinion:
-People want to maintain their SP value in the hopes that one day they'll have good enough gear to actually stand a chance against those in Proto gear.
-They want SP gain but don't want blueberries to affect their KDR.
-They're lazy, and don't feel like playing, but have nothing else better to do.
Q2: "So many complain about the game yet they continue to be a part of it, why is that?"
My Opinion:
-People seem to have an estranged sense of entitlement. Like CCP owes them for wasting their time. In ALL fairness you could play this game and do EVERYTHING in it and be just as good as the next guy, granted with a lot more patience, without having to spend a dime. I spent $20 on the ORIGINAL merc pack which got me into the E3 CBT's for DUST 514 and haven't spent a dime on the game since.
If you spend money on this game while your in the "Everything is sparkly and new" phase or to "catch up to those bastards in proto gear" then it is YOUR choice. CCP doesn't force people to spend money on this game. In all honestly I think, for some people, the only reason they play this game is because they don't have to spend money on it. It's always here, will be here for a long time. So they log in, play a couple, and then get upset when they lose (be it fair or not) and then complain because they feel entitled to.
-Some people complain about the game to progress balance. However these individuals are often drowned out by others who complain about issues they do not fully understand.
Q3: "Why do you play this game?"
I play this game because despite all it's current faults, it has MASSIVE potential. I've been here for a LONG time, I've done it all and seen it all. I remember when the most OP and game breaking weapon in the game was the Remote Explosive. I remember when if you were in a match and your enemy called in a Missile Dropship and you didn't have AV, you might as well quit right there.
THE GAME HAS COME A LONG WAY SINCE THEN.
I play because I still have faith.
