I didn't know where to put this, and since this is MY story theory, My Dust seems to be ok.
Sorry if this is long: Does Dust 514 even have a story? I've kind of put one together from little things I've picked up from playing the game and the intro cutscenes, and daydreaming, and doing fan art, but I could be way off from the truth. This is what I have so far.
In the distant future the galaxy is at war. The Amarr empire has for some time tried to conquer all of known space due to a religious-based belief in their own "manifest destiny." However they've faced strong opposition from both Gallente and Caldari forces in what is essentially the space version of World War 2. After losing many of their slave caste to an uprising that led to the creation of the Minmatar Empire, the Amarr find themselves increasingly at a disadvantage and are desperate for any new scientific discovery that could turn the war back in their favor.
Somewhere in uncharted space, an Amarrian Exploration Vessel stumbles upon a derelict space craft of unknown origin. While no trace of the Aliens responsible for the ship are found, the scientists find the technology behind the cloning process that all the Dust mercs use. Suddenly the Amarr Empire is back in full swing. Their first batch of clones are the Templars. While flawed (under massive pain, and prone to psychotic episodes), they come out physically superior to humans in almost every single way. From the Templars the cloning process gets refined and the modern Amarr Army is born.
In time, through espionage, and desperate military raids, the technology finds itself in the hands of the other Empires and a new age of War is born. One of cloned mercenaries, of immortal soldiers and whole planets fall to the ravages of battle. Eventually many of the Templars rise up against the Amarr Empire, feeling betrayed for essentially being lab experiments, but by this time the Empire has become a lumbering behemoth and not even the mighty Templars are enough to stop them.
The instigator behind this war is the Amarr Empress. As old age begins to catch up with her she has her scientists clone her, but not in the way the Templars or the soldiers are cloned. She wanted a perfect clone, free of sickness and age. They succeed but it seems that the cloning technology that they've been using (being alien in origin) is not completely understood. She comes out reborn, but with a split psyche. On one side is the Amarr Empress, leading her people to glory, but behind the veil of her mind lies a new personaltiy. One slowly taking over. One that hears voices and admonitions from a foreign source.
There are aliens out there. The ones responsible for the cloning technology. Older than the human race, they are of a Lovecraftian nature and they've been watching, waiting, and now they have a puppet as a world player, the Amarr Empress. As the war continues to take it's toll everyone is oblivious to the sudden turn of events. The only ones who suspect something is wrong are the Empress' inner court... and one other person.
Born into war, without a past, and an uncertain future he struggles to find a place free from battle and death. He is the first clone. The greatest of all soldiers. He is Templar 1 and while he wants nothing to do with the war, his destiny will lead him to the far reaches of the galaxy and to the limits of human endurance. For he too, can hear the voices of the ancients and the doom those voices portend...
This is his story and the story of the last great war. This is the story of Dust 514. |
