I started at the official release (5/14/13) so while I'm not a vet, I know enough and have reached a level of skill where I'm no longer a beginner. After playing as a scout for a couple of weeks I decided on expanding my skill-set and started a Logi-alt. After plowing through the Academy and joining Instant Battles, here are some conclusions I've reached.
1. The difference between Miltia/Standard gear and Prototype gear is huge
Vast, gigantic, enormous, colossal, gargantuan even. I'm using the basic Scrambler rifle and if I meet a blacksuit I die. No exceptions. It doesn't matter if I'm behind a cover, if I shoot first or if the enemy is facing the other way, I simply can't do enough damage.
I was always under the impression, and maybe I'm the one at fault here, that if two players of equal skill meet the better gear would would allow one of the players to come out on top. This is how it should be and I have no problems with it, but if a player of higher skill in worse gear meets a player of comparatively lower skill with better gear then skill should come out on top. Of course, there are limits to this but at least in theory an exceptional player in MIL gear should be able to take on a crappy player in PRO gear.
2. Pre-formed Squads should not be allowed in Instant Battle
(With pre-formed I mean squads that are created before joining a battle and not ones created while in the Warbarge.)
I'm only half-serious with this, but in literally my first game after the Academy my team (just randoms) went up against almost two full squads from the same corp and were summarily destroyed. The top 4 enemy players (all in the same corp) all went 20/1 or above and none of them used LAV's, just PRO gear.
Again, I'm not entirely serious here, as teamwork as a defining aspect of the game. And some randoms may see how a proper squad benefits them because they see teamwork in action. This is good a thing, but something needs to be done about the usual suspects who run squads full of Prototype gear against unorganized rabble.
3. LAV's should take more damage from small arms
Calm down, calm down, I'm not calling for a nerf "Yes you are! HTFU!" No, I'm just saying that a group of people with AR's or Scrambler rifles (etc.) should be able to damage LAV's. Not destroy it, but damage it enough to make driving into a group of enemies more dangerous than it currently is.
In conclusion, at its best, Dust is actually quite fun. At least it is to me, but I'm not a beta-veteran so I probably don't understand what fun is.
Thank you for your time. |
