Because anyone can take out your dumb little derpship viper with literally 4 shots from a proto fit Python, and i do it every single time there's an enemy DS in the air, lol. |

It's pretty clear that CCP actually does understand the pit they have put us in, all they have to do is analyze the statistics over DS pilots, and it's right there, and I'm sure they have. The only question is whether or not they will fix any of these issues soon, or far down the road, and that question is basically up in the air. And I am playing in the US so that's the region I'm in. And it's pretty hard to randomly find players in matches, I've done it around 3 times where i have found other members i recognize from the forums lol |

Because anyone can take out your dumb little derpship viper with literally 4 shots from a proto fit Python, and i do it every single time there's an enemy DS in the air, lol. Then you get 1-shot by a FG, who lost more then? See one can lose these "dumb little derpships" multiple times during a game and it would still cost less than one proto fit python. So even if your one expensive ship can shoot down a cheap one, unless you can make each one last multiple matches, its not gonna be worth it. MAYBE if you're an active PC player and only use them then, but outside of that, its probably best to go militia. The problem is many pilots think they need to either ONLY be using the best more expensive fits, or only militia fits, when really they should be using both. Just like infantry, unless you have the Isk to spare, you're not gonna spam proto fits every time in every single game, which altho yes, cheaper than vehicle fits, they can be lost a lot faster than a vehicle. (Unless the pilot is REALLY bad of course.) Most infantry (that I'm aware of) have a cheap fit they go to when they don't want to lose or waste their expensive fit(s), something many other vehicle users in general don't seem to like doing. Its either use the top fit or not use a vehicle at all, which lets be honest, its just silly. you must be either new to dropships, or haven't fully skilled into proto-gear for them. I can take 5 shots from militia FG's, 2 from proto, and still take 1 from a proto-railgun tank and still escape. I lost an ADS about ever 1 out of 10 matches i play, and i have been making enough ISK to keep me balanced at around 7 mil constantly. My fuel injectors and proto shield resistance amplifiers allow me to not only take a proto-shot, but escape & avoid the next shot before they have time to fire it. So don't think that I am unskilled and don't know what I'm talking about when my proto-ds can stay alive for 10 matches in a row (i never am on the ground) without losing 1, even faced with railgun snipers and proto AV in the match, i can survive. |

Asirius Medaius wrote:The dark cloud wrote:Screw that i stay with my derpship (viper). Seriously whats the point in dropships when i can do all tasks with a militia variant? Exactly. A militia fit Viper might stand a shot or two from a redline-sniping Raligun tank. Any other dropship better than that would crumble in 3 shots or less. The difference between a Viper and any other dropship? Hundreds of thousands of more isk for fit, and millions of SP to sink. You are spending millions of SP and at least five times more isk on a dropship, just to have either a built-in CRU or about 3 to 5 seconds more time for your dropship to stay alive. At this point, I think most dropship pilots can agree that CCP f**ked up pretty badly. My alt (which is only specced into ADS) agrees. Hell, I couldn't even fly anything on my alt until CCP introduced ISK transfers between people/characters. My dropship beats your viper because not only does it have better defense, its offense consists of 2 XT Missile launchers, which will make your viper look like a flying ship made of glass. The thing you have to anticipate for as well are other dropships who want to kill you, because i can't tell you the amount of Vipers i have destroyed in literally 4 shots from 1 missile launcher on my ds. |

I think the big difference here is this: If you want to be an actual pilot, skill into the best proto-gear for the dropship you can, that includes the python or eryx which has an extrordinary amount more PG/CPU than those cheap militia fits.
However, if you want to be a casual, fly-this-to-a-roof-and-recal player: Fly a Viper, it's cheap, will get taken out in 1 shot from a railgun (seen it happen more than once) and is mainly there for just getting snipers and FG's up high to deploy uplinks for their buds, but if it gets engaged in combat, consider it out. |
