Part I, for reference: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=429616#post429616
Hello, I've returned and have 1.5 Million Unallocated SP. As many of you know, I am a fan of the Light Frames/Scout suits. My current skills are so: All Dropsuit Upgrades That Boost CPU/PG: Level 5 Mass Driver: Level 3 Assault Rifle: Level 4 Light Frame, Gallente: Level 3 Shield Extenders: Level 3 Armor Repair Systems: Level 1 Armor Plates: Level 1 Grenades: Level 1 Remote Explosives: Level 2
Now the reason I ask "What To Do" is because this is an opportunity to crack open into a new direction of Scout. I've been testing the waters in Scout-Sniper, and I'm getting a good feel for that. However I could just continue on my Mass Driver - Scout path, but I am not so sure on that. I will continue to use Scrambler Pistols and keep the cult alive, but I really just need a scout role I can ease into. So what will it be?
Swarm Scout / Plasma Launcher Scout? AR Scout? MD Scout? Sniper Scout? Shotgun Scout?
I'll allow the community to throw out ideas for me to help ease my mind into a decision. |

I personally like SMG/Nova w/ Remote Explosives and Flux Grenades. I hear Shotgun Scout is a lot of fun if you skill deeper into Shotguns to get some of the good bonuses though.
Here is what I currently fit. It works really well for me and runs about 26k ISK~ each.
Minmatar Scout M/1 Series(ADV)
Highs: 2x Basic Shield Extenders
Lows: 2x Enhanced Kinetic Catalizers
Weapons: M209 Assault SMG ZN28 Nova Knife
Grenade: Flux Grenades

Welcome back Mr Bojo.
When I'm solo and the blueberries won't stand still long enough for my logistics services I run an advanced Minmatar light frame with an advanced SMG and Flaylock to go harass the enemy. Toss in a flux grenade to soften them up and dance around to finish them off. I drop uplinks as I go to spawn my own reinforcements. Its good for hacking objectives and hunting snipers that aren't hiding deep in the redline too. |

BOJO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *hugs*
I recommend SMG or shotgun scouts, both are really effective. Plasma cannon scout can be a rather amusing way to take out proto suits, provided you can actually hit anything with it. |

Plasma cannon scout for the win! Run them cheap with a STD Gal scout, with a basic PLC, SMG, locus nades, kin cats. Slap a compact nanohive on there and run around trolling for great justice. A great way to keep the game interesting while waiting for scouts to be viable |

Scrambler charge. Acts like a medium range sniper. But then agai if some one sees you, dead.
I do how ever as a change of pace, scout MD. People just stay away from you or rage and charge. Cook that flux and know win and wherethat round will fall. Pray
God speed, my scout brotheren |

With adequate dampening and range, wallhack scout is fun. Bait with scrambler pistol fire and then detonate RE when they round the corner or sprint-flank with SG. Also, a scrambler pistol headshot and follow up still drops most suits, but you need the bonus clipsize for increased reliably, 9 was the magic number for me in chromosome.
Uplinks IV will give you at least 3 flavors of multiple-deploy uplinks. Gek38 and Charge Scr with assault smg routinely wreck me at midrange (icedslayer and chilled pill) Assault smg and adv sniper/rail rifle could make for a behindlines/disruptor playstyle
Ive also derived great joy from playing mop scout: RE/SG/SP/Flux Get behind lines Find enemy squad Operate in their 6 while trying to remain undetected -clear uplink trail -RE their retreat path -assasinate logi w re or SP headshot
The opportunities are endless! |

Ok, so I'm thinking that I will wait a while - earn some more SP, and then carry out this plan:
- Proto-Scout
- Complex Extenders
- Advanced Scrambler Pistols
- Damage Mods
- Complex Repairs
- ADV Nanohives
- TacNet Modules
- Basic Sniper Rifles: Norm & Tactical
I'm trying to move my Scout role to further Stealth, but I can live with my current profile of 45 DB for a while; I can only be picked up by scouts or a Medium frame with an enhancer (a rarity).
I'll let my weapons remain at ADV level so I can't get Gun-Ho! Happy and be a douche in public matches. Prototype Light Frame is a much closer goal than Prototype Scout, but I need to go Scout for a few reasons:
- I have 75 Quafe Suits
- I would like the Scanning Range racial bonus
This path is going to be a long one but in the end, I will have a great Stealth-Saboteur. I will have access to good Assault Rifles, the EXO-5 Mass Driver (a real crowd pleaser), Advanced Pistols (so fun and powerful), and have a Long Range fall back weapon.
Nanohives feel like the way to go for my Scout path, to accommodate my Mass Driver and Remote Explosives, as well as to be a real asset. I'm not really the Uplink guy, like most scouts are. No, my tastes are for the gear that promote Self-Reliance, because a Saboteur can't rely on anyone else.
I have been doing some thought on TacNet and realized that it really helps to be undetected, as is the nature of Scouts/Light Frames, but I'd also like to be undetected by other Scouts or TacNet enthusiasts because I want to be completely ghosted. Scouts have the best innate TacNet attributes so modules can take them so much farther, especially in terms of Range.
I have taken a resolution that I will need Sniper Rifles because not everything is urban enough for me to always avoid eyesight; a scout in the open is fairly doomed. So I'd rather do longer range operations when it doesn't favor my previous conditions.
But Bojo, what about Shotguns!
I've lost the taste for shotguns, they are too "closed" in terms of abilities. They are a real killer, that's for sure, but they can't be put to any use outside, what? 5 meters? Like I previously said, conditions aren't always so prime for close quarters, so I'd rather rely on my Breach Gear for CQC than a shotgun for the sake of combat not always being close quarters.
Tell me any advice for this plan if you have any, ie: what TacNet modules should I hit first? Should I prioritize differently? Should I stick to Light Frames? |

Was talking to Rei Mex, member of BSotT:
He began discussing my approach to shield extenders and damage mods. His approach to my plan is that damage modules are not really worth it when it comes down to the numbers and how my plan includes Complex shield extenders.
And he brings up a good point, is it really effective to mix HP and Damage?
I plan to bring a mix of Damage modules and shield extenders to my scout, for the purpose of creating a glass cannon but not on anything suicide level.
I'm aiming for this sort of fitting to use as my most common:
Highs: Shield Extender, Damage Mods, (+/-) Range Amplifier Lows: Repair Unit, TacNet Modules,
Weapons: Burst/TacAR, Mass Drivers, Sniper Rifle (Low Tier), Scrambler Pistols (!)
These set ups will promote Stealth, High Damage, and a little Self Reliance.
But is it a good idea to mix damage mods and extenders for my weapon selection? The latest trend is EHP as I've noticed, Medium frames and heavies ramping up the health, but why should I follow that trend when I am the weakest of the bunch?
TLDR So....to damage modify or not to damage modify! And to what extent! Should I mix! |

Here are my thoughts on your path, Bojo (I am a Gallente stealth scout):
Since you have Gallente light frames L3, the natural extension is to go into Gallente scouts, which seems especially appropriate if you want to operate as a stealth saboteur, since this scout suit's racial bonuses are related to scan range and profile dampening.
However, given the slot load out for high slots on the Gallente suit (1 high at STD, 2 at ADV, back to 1 at PRO), my recommendation is to select either damage modifiers OR shield extenders, as for most suits even if you have both items skilled, you can only fit one module. I prefer shields, which makes my ADV suit (which is rarely used due to expense) the highest EHP suit for me. I wouldn't waste any SP in damage mods, but if you are offensive you may reverse this trend, in which case - why take the shield extension skill past your current L3?
Note that this assumes that your scan precision is something you don't want to augment via modules, as the scan precision module is also a high slot module. Given the lack of high slots on the Gal suit and your competing interests of shield/damage, my recommendation is that of the 3 passive scanning skills (precision, dampening and range), and the innate bonuses of the Gallente scout suit to dampening and range; first skill up the passive scan precision skill to L5, so you reduce your scan precision from 45 to 40.5... detecting even more scouts who are in the early phases of skilling their passive dampening / scout bonuses.
I lean towards more AR range and use SMG for "close"..... it used to be pistol but I have a BPO for SMG/AR so the majority of my load outs are of that flavor since I'm saving ISK for eventual vehicle (fighter/speeder) fits. The shotty is great, but you need to rely on kin/cats and potentially stamina mods. For a Gal scout this can be a problem as most of your HP is armor, so if you forgo an armor repper you are really taking a chance.
The fit I use most is my "recon" fit - 1 militia shield high, 1 enhanced range extender low, 1 militia armor repper low. I can't get in and out as quickly as a kin/cat or Min scout, so operating at mid range or under stealth is key for me.
I don't find my sniper fits that useful, as the SR keeps me too 'focused' on one direction, and I loose a versatile mid range weapon (AR/ScR). It has more damage but in a stealth fit many times I get a damage bonus just by having more time to line up my first shot as a head shot....(maybe another reason to forgo damage mods?)
Good luck w/ your fit!

Thanks for the advice!
I was worrying about the inevitable down grade to 1 high slot and precision enhancers. But it's nice to use the advanced suit: it saves money and has symmetric fitting abilities. However is 40.5 db precision really worth being a stopping point? Click ! Based on this theory, just because my Scan Precision is at 45 db does not mean that under all circumstances an enemy with a 45 db Profile will appear on my radar. I feel like I should get my Precision as low as it can get for the fittings that will require it, so my awareness will be prime. I've had assaults go under my radar before and I can't rightly say they didn't have Profile Dampeners, but chances be slim yo. I think you are right about shields and damage mods for light of a Prototype suit but because the Adv can mix and mingle, I think damage mods will remain on my list but shall be the last thing on it. I'm definitely going to hit complex repair module for "Investment Protection"
About Sniper Rifles...I do use them at long ranges, but I've also taken to using it in more medium ranges, in the ranges just outside AR Effective, as Fox Gaden explains here
I'm not so super on Stamina and Kin Cats because I'm favoring the Stealth over it. But you have given me some good insight into my damage mod vs shield quandary....graci |
