I fly dropships full time on my main, and recently made an alt with a forge gun to see what shooting them down was like. While I believe AV has far too easy of a time getting at dropships, I was very annoyed by their noise. I have a pair of surround sound headphones and HAVs, LAVs, gunfire, grenades, etc all come from a definite direction. Dropships, on the other hand, seem to have a whirr that comes from every direction at once. This causes me to have to spin around scanning the sky for them and then keep tabs on them, rather than be able to use the sound in my headset to know which direction they are coming from. |

so you want to make it easier to shoot you down on your main, by making it easy for forge gunners to find you? makes sense. |

I think other things are needed to balance dropships out against forge guns, but it isn't right that the noise just comes from everywhere. This is the first and only game I've played with this headset, so IDK how good other games are at it, but DUST is very good at having direction to its noises. The fact that dropships are above that just isn't correct, and it doesn't matter how "balanced" it is, when you see a plane you can hear where it's coming from (even if the speed of sound delays it a little bit). |

im not arguing that it makes perfect sense that you shouldn't be able to tell the direction of a dropship. What i don't understand is why you (being a pilot) would make a request that would make you more vulnerable and easily found. |

Even if it makes it easier, It would make immersion that much better. I like the idea. Maybe after AV has been brought down, or dropships are brought up, though. |

I'd like to see just how accurately you could pinpoint an airborne vehicle while blindfolded. The further up the vehicle is, the more difficult it would be to point.
I'm sure that your suggestion is valid. I don't play with high quality sound :( so I don't experience this. Hell, I get run over quite often because LAVs have a tendency to not show up on the radar. I can definitely hear the *******, but knowing they're probably behind me is the only heads up I get. |

I did some very brief testing last night, and while they definitely are directional, it's hard to tell which direction because they are above you and surround sound doesn't exactly capture above very well. I saw one fly by and started spinning, and the sound was definitely revolving around me, it's just much harder to pinpoint than an HAV's treads, blaster turret, gunfire, or an LAV. |
