Ok, so I know that there are two kinds of dropships-Shield & Armor. My question to all of you experienced pilots is: Which is better? Does one have any advantages PC or CPU wise? Does one do better against Swarm Launchers? I can't go too big, as I am without a corp to fund me, so I need something decent from the start. |

if you want to hover and or extract troops than you go gallente, if you want to try and shoot down other ships then go caldari. caldari can be 1 shotted but are faster. gallente can tank a few hits and can be made more versatile, not saying caldari assault dropship does not have it's use but it is strcitly for downing other dropships, it CAN try to support troops but generally fails at it.
ask more specific question i have flown for about 10 months both races of dropships and many more pilots here besides me
your biggest fear will not be swarms it will be forge guns, and rail turrets from tanks or large installations, the caldari is technically better vs swarms as it is a shielded and shields resists explosives, but the gallente can have enough shield to shrug off swarms, it's the forge guns and rail related weaponry that is the dropships banes, is the reason why many pilots go gallente is because armor has innate resist vs rail weaponry. and that wep is the main threat to a DS |

Armor is also more sluggish and harder to control than shields. I learned to fly in a Viper, and then tried a Gorgon. Not as responsive, but also, harder to throw off course. |

This.
There is nothing more soul crushing then fitting your shiny new Viper and feeling like King Richard, swallower of swarms, then get railed for less than of 1/2 of your epic passive shield (NO BIG DEAL RIGHT? - WRONG). You still get flipped on your side and crash into the ground/cliff/structure no matter how impressive your EHP.
OMFG I hate it.
Sluggishness is a positive attribute for dropships. Collision damage seems to affect armor much less than shields. Gallente suck up those rails, boys and girls, and that's what counts.
Armor on. |

Caldari can be used for CAS but it's more a case of hovering for ten seconds, putting some fire down, then bugging out, rinse and repeat. Gallente follows a similar operating procedure but can stay for longer and takes more hits. And as teabow said, you want to take down other dropships go caldari, gallente just gets annihilated going up against them. |

This is true BECAUSE of the responsiveness of shielded dropships versus the sluggishness of armored ones. I enjoy going head to head with even an Incubus (AKA Gallente Assualt) with just a Viper. It works really well. |
