So I had an interesting experience in the game last night.. I'm not sure if it was lag related (albeit it happened often in that round and not just to my swarms) anyways.. storyline time
We were in an ambush match, and fairly quickly dropship got called in on the enemy side. I died in my militia fit, so spawned in my G1 suit wtih the advanced swarms and figured I'd go take out the tanks and bug the dropship a bit. Got rid the tank, albeit even though it was stationary and I had a direct line of sight, my missile first 2 missilies didn't hit it and it took a third to actually register the damage. At this time I went to work on the dropship along with about 3-4 other players as I could see the numerous swarms flying towards it. While in the air I hit it a few times, got him into 50% armor and watched it as it pulled away and landed.. I went closer to it and locked it while it was on the ground, shortly before my missiles were supposed to hit the dropship took off and missiles missed it. (we're talking straight up and down movement). Figured, dratz, resupplied and kept looking for it.. Finally had it again in my sights, launched and he pulled away once again landing, This time I was close enough that I could immediately lock it, and kept firing but he just kept landing and taking off. While he was on the ground my missile would fly overhead it, and when he took off my missiles would just smack the ground. As if there was NO tracking on them at all.. I was looking at the other swarms and it wasn't just mine that kept doing it.
Not quite sure what to make of it yet, will have to test it again, but if this is indeed a way to avoid them, it's got to be a bug since a stationary target should NOT be able to avoid a seeking missile. |

Missile user can't talk about not being able to kill stuff. DSs can't even tell there bing locked on to, the missle user can fire from behind cover and the missiles push DSs completely out of a fight, not forgetting that the missiler can see the DS coming before the pilot can't see anyone.
Not quite true.. A good pilot can avoid swarms pretty easy, and the current tracking on the swarms are of such caliber tht you're likely to hit any number of objectives that aren't in your line of sight but for some reason the swarms hit them anyways. (try using swarms before you comment on them please). I've also seen dropships rain down missile spam at ranges far beyond rendering distance thus the swarm user (nor anyone on the ground) can actually lock onto them.

People act like the damn things dont fly in a straight line towards their target, now Im not going to say they will absolutely never get to you behind cover but if they that means they were already incredibly close to you and would have hit you no matter what Seriously spend a while using them and studying their flight patterns and youll see that the way they lock on and track targets is really more of a detriment than advantage
You just nailed the problem on the head. People just comment on an aspect of the game that they never tried but are up against. My original post had nothing to do with dropships being OP or anything. I was merely asking/stating an event to see if anyone else has had that effect considering that it's a very strange way to avoid getting damaged.
Anyone using swarms will tell you.. that they tend to head towards the obstacles prior to actually heading towards their target. I've even tested this out a build ago where I stood in the middle of the road, and whichever side I would walk closer to by a bit, the swarm would do a 90turn towards the banks and hit them prior to flying straight towards their target. |
