Planetside 2 does this all the time though and in that game people are encouraged to buy new guns all the time. |

Yeah but nerfs in Planetside 2 always seem final, like its something they never revisit or readjust again or in the recent trend they keep nerfing something into the ground while making it feel like you're being punished because you chose the wrong color. 5-7 USD down the drain per gun they nerf and they always seem to nerf the best seller and unlike Dust 514, there is no potential in ever getting your investment back out of it. Something may be in the works for Dust 514 to allow refocusing of specialization but how and how to make it fair for everyone would be an interesting answer nonetheless. |

"oh m favorite gun just got nerfed, better throw my money at the game for the next FOTM"
For me the average gun takes me two months to unlock in planetside as a casual player.
In Dust 514 I had just about every gun type, base suit, module, base vehicle, unlocked by week one after reset.
Good players don't need prototype gear.
Also I am probably a different sort of player, I generally gravitate towards weapons that I feel better in use, for example my favorite type of sniper rifle in most games is generally the closest thing to a bolt action rifle they have because the way the function usually is a very peculiar. I just find it upsetting that they would go to lengths to nerf a sniper rifle to do less damage than some small caliber pistols in that game. |
