Late last night, I was getting tuckered out with sitting in front of the TV playing so I put the controller down with the 'local' chat tab up so I could chuckle at the other mercs ripping this immature player a new one. Then I noticed a strange character join the chat... I say strange cause instead of a default mercenary avatar it was actually a person avatar (never played EVE I didn't know what this was). But yeah, turns out to be an EVE character in a Dust chat. I click on her profile and see she's apart of a corp and I curiously apply to the corporation to see whats going on. Within seconds I'm invited to chat by another character (The CEO of the corporation). I accept.
Now I'm in a chat with about 8-9 other characters each with different avatars and what not. Turns out this way my first time connecting with EVE and it was their first time connecting with Dust. They were a pacifist crew corporation set on exploring New Eden entirely. But as a bonus they're role players... as in, they are the characters they made for the game. It sounded really silly to me but the more they began to talk and question why me, 'Cryson' a violent merc would want to be apart of a pacifist corporation I started thinking... Who is Cryson Toxli... I began to ponder his story and why he does the things he does. The captain/commander/whatever you want to call him was honestly extremely nice. Explaining that I could stay as long as I was a medic for the other mercs planet side and never attempted to kill anyone. He went on to say my curiosity probably landed me here and this isn't for me.
I agreed.
He asked me who I was, assuming I was another role player so... I told him. I'm Cryson Toxli, a shallow mercenary of Caldari State. I fight for no ideals. I don't care about whats right and wrong. All I want is to partner with big corps for big pay checks. He as well as the rest of his crew respected that, wished me the best and said goodbye.
It was neat to play like that. I'm not too big on it still but the feeling my character has a story and not just another faceless fighter its kinda cool.
I was wondering if anyone has ever played like this and interacted with other players doing so? |

Hey.
Glad to know someone else is also interested in the RP scene, the DUST RP community is quite small and could use new faces. You should definitely go check our Intergalactic Summit forum, most of the DUST RP is done there nowadays. Checking out the Backstage is also a great place for DUST and EVE roleplayers together to discuss the events happening in New Eden and study on other characters. For all the official CCP lore on all things in New Eden you should check the Evelopedia. Finally, if you want to do more roleplay in-game, consider joining the channels The Summit and OOC, it is the most populated RP hub in EVE Online and DUST 514.
Welcome to the community. o7
Also, if you really want to delve into roleplaying, consider joining a corporation with an RP focus. PIE Inc and the Intaki Liberation Front are the two I know, and Dead Six Initiative seems to have a few RP players, so looking them up would be adviseable too. |

Oooh, it all makes sense now, AFKers are actually role-playing as pacifists, that's why they don't do anything! |

I pretend to be a bot...
I do stupid stuff in the battle lobby like only walk on tiles and always go through the same routine of walking over only the lines between the tiles.
When playing I sometimes randomly walk into walls and then back track and go through a bad route. Then after a game if we win I type in 'satisfactory job'. If we dominate I put 'Excellent Exercise'. If we lose I type in 'Uncooperative battle results'. If we get dominated I put in ' Terrible effort, prepare for re tasking'. Plus I get a lot of head shots with my scrambler pistol.
I have had a lot of people think, that I am a bot lol |

I think it's cool. Would be better if more ppl role played in the effing ROLEPLAYING games. It would definitely add some fun to the game and make it a more emersive experience. I think most ppl do role play at least to a small degree. I think if you are caldari you wanna see that flying galente tard go down in flames. If you are playing minmatar scout, you kind enjoy dropping that amar heavy, etc. |

We support the Amarr and we are even now developing doctrines so that on the battlefield we both look and act like Amarrian infantry |

It's actually something I'd like to do for this toon.... RPing a Minamtar using Amarr gear would be an interesting way to create a backstory.. |

"The Summit" is an in game RP channel were most of the RPers in EVE and a few from Dust hang out. Occasionally a wild Dev character will show up.
"OOC" is a channel were you can get ideas/help with creating a back story for your character, or just post funny images. Also prone to wild Dev characters showing up. |

Hmmmm...will check out the Kamieras but I've been thinking along other lines...loyalty to the empire is not something my toon would consider a worthy ideal to uphold... No disrespect to the empire but its only a quarter of what's happening in new eden. |

RP has a terrible reputation, I dont mind reasonable rp, like staying 50% in character in public chats.
My story is simple, I dont have biological parents, Im testube 1044 crafted by Wal-mart.
There goal?
To create a loyal soldier for the capitalist pigs. To place and own hotels, and one stop super stores on every moon in new Eden.

The other nice thing about Dust 514 and Eve that it is so darn easy to be role playing without realization. A goal is more than enough to make you a role player.
However there is the other end of the role play spectrum as others pointed out, those who get really involved into the game's lore
There is a neat place you can learn and 'immigrate' into the universe here
