If there is, I hope that they allow game choices that will limit what we can use after we make the choice to play a game.
An example to illustrate: I'm skilled into proto suits but I want to play in a militia game, then I should be allowed to play in the game but only with militia gear. My proto gear should be non-selectable for that game.
I do think that there should be some game types that are free-for-all (any type of equipment), because it can be cheaper and more challenging to play in lower tier suits.

Will it be SP based then?
Saves the new generation from facing someone with 14 million sp?

I hope it's based on the number of people you've run over in your LAV. More roadkill gets you into the "Murder Mayhem Smash up Mode!" Or MMSM... I initially thought it would be called "Serial Taxi Driver" Mode, but I just wouldn't want to be in STD mode... |

What is someone with say, 2million SP was in a squad with 500k SP, 5mil SP, 15mil SP, 750k SP, as corps often are, would it be based on the average SP of the whole group or will it use another system all together? |

Hopefully it heavily favors the highest amount of SP (if it tracks that / takes it into account), to avoid players being boosted and essentially destroying the point of using SP in the calculation to begin with by letting proto vets put a noob in their squad to get paired against a bunch of noobs. |

-_- my militia and standard matches was a better idea im guessing........it cant be SP since people can spec into "bad" choices and if its WP's or KDR I team up with a lot of newer players from my corp its gonna be a huge disadvantage if im paired with proto squads cause of my WP or KDR |

The smart thing to do would be to base it off your total SP to total war points ratio, that way just because you're old, doesn't mean you're good. And if you're good but new, you can fight people with better equipment, rather than pub stomping newbs all day.
So, total skill points / total war points = how effective you are per skill point.
It's a way of establishing skill/talent without going off K/D which can be inflated by all sorts of scenarios (Snipers would dominate that list) or basing it off gear alone (which is just a measure of isk/time spent in game). |

Gear based matchmaking is a terrible idea.
I believe that it's about the age of the player.

but what if ur trying to help newer players and because uve been around longer they face experienced players who wipe the floor with them its not helping at all atleast in my militia mode idea we can have some practice matches to get them used to weapons and combat in general |

That makes no sense, it should be based entirely on skill, I know guys with ~5 million SP that runs strictly militia in pub matches that can easily go 20-3 in a pub match even with a squad of proto bears on the other side. |

Having said that we don't think matchmaking has a place for all battles, this is New Eden after all. We are working on plans to expand both faction warfare and planetary conquest to more players, hopefully providing a more "gloves off" battle for those that like that sort of thing.

No it can't be because CCP needs to keep the sandbox element alive. If you're that concerned, use a 40k Adv fit - it takes down proto just as good if you have the skill. |

but to that quote how would it determine weaker squads of new players? could I not help others and only play with elite members of my corp? i don't want to squad lead new recruits if i know they will be in huge danger

No-squad options is almost the perfect solution. Cause say you go no-squad, even if the other team has a few random protobears, so will your team. The huge offset proto brings to pub matches is that they are usually squaded with others in proto, and when that happens the situation intensifies immensely. Being grouped seems to make an exponential difference, rather than a linear one.
On the flip-side if you are running in a squad, well then you face others in squads. Even if there is proto squads on the other team, your team is likely to have them too.
CCP, just throw this in while you work on MM. It will breath new life into the game immediately. |

I'll ask this again, how would you enforce it?
Secondly, If you're a decent player I recommend rolling an alt and playing a few matches. |

heh I did this recently because i wanted to try out things and make an infantry character, logging the character in and playing is an absolutely terrible experience, looking at the skill tree and knowing its going to be months before the character is even close to competitive is demoralizing and I've basically given up on it. |

I just created a "derp" toon a few days ago. My main currently has proto cald assault, AR, and sub. For giggles i made a gallente suit with a SR/sub and found it easy enough to compete in pubs outside the academy. All it really takes to be competitive is the ability to understand the main function of the "L1" trigger and to not become to agressive, but rather, take the time to look at my suroundings and understand the flow of battle. (ie. Troop movements, aveneus of attack/retreat, and available cover)
It also helps that the majority of proto users become over confident in their abilities because they wield such powerful gear. |
