Intro When I first started this game, I flew a Viper and could generate the ISK for about one Viper per match. Knowing how EVE works, I figured my income would increase. Turns out, there is no real way of scaling income. The system I'm proposing would kill two birds with one stone; income will increase over time, and new players will not be protostomped the instant they step out of the Instant Battle Academy.
How are we gonna do it? Imagine the current academy being replaced by a 5 level system. For those of you who have played EVE, this mocks the leveled system of missions.
When a new character is created, they are only able to enter level 1 battles (just like the current academy). After 10K WP, they are able to queue for level 2 battles. Level 2 battles have better pay, but obviously the competition is a little bit tougher. If you don't feel like you're ready for it, you can still queue for level 1 battles, but you won't make as much money. At 50K WP, you are eligible to enter level 3 battles. To save the newberries, no player eligible for levels 3-5 will be able to enter a level 1 batte. Here's the level/WP requirement/reward overview: Level 1: <10K WP, ~20K ISK reward Level 2: 10-50K WP, ~100K ISK reward Level 3: 50-200K WP, ~500K ISK reward Level 4: 200-800K WP, ~2.5M ISK reward Level 5: >800K WP, ~12.5M ISK reward
What about gear prices? Now, 12.5M ISK may seem steep, but there are a few caveats here. Mainly, gear prices must be scaled. This is mainly so that top end players are discouraged from jumping into a lower tier battle. The average fitting would cost as follows: Militia: 0-1K ISK Standard: ~5K ISK Advanced: ~50K ISK Prototype: ~500K ISK
As you can see, if a player in fully advanced gear joins a level 2 battle and dies twice, he has already lost all potential money he could make for that match. Also, gear prices go up about tenfold for each tier. That is the mechanic that protects our newberries. No, it won't stop a rich player with proto gear from joining level 2 battles, but he won't receive much of a monetary reward from it. If 12.5M ISK still seems like a high number to make in 20 minutes, remember that an EVE player running a C6 site can make a billion ISK in a few hours.
This proposal probably needs its numbers tweaked substantially, but it's a start. I've played pretty regularly since the day this game went to open beta, and I'm just now at 500K WP. I haven't researched much on WP vs. SP, and I'm a dropship pilot so my view of the world is a little messed up in the first place.
Feel free to throw in your own ideas.
TL;DR Create a tiered academy where you can progressively join more rewarding battles. |

I like how detailed this post is. I'd like to see that for regular merc battles as well. Your average match will net about half a proto suit or 1/3 of a tank. My thought is, if EVE has billions of ISK, why are we struggling for 200K a match? |

I do totally agree with the tiered skill progression, but I'd like to point some things out; If you're a bad fps player you'll keep getting owned by anyone, it's just a matter of time, not of gear, knowledge of maps, tacticism etc. I mean, your system would be perfect if instead of WP tier, they adopt a dynamic Leveling system (the one you can level up or level down) , so that when you're doing good you level up, when you're doing bad, you level down. My vision, is something really similar to Metal Gear Online Level/Rank system Quote: Characters receive different performance indicators between official tournaments (grade) and regular matches (level). Both ranking systems encourage playing against higher ranked players and disfavor playing against players of equal or lower rank. Grades range from Rookie to SS+, and are influenced by performance in Survival and Tournament rounds.[2] Levels range from 0 to 22 and fluctuate based on results in Statistics enabled battles. |

This is an interesting idea. There definitely needs to be something to segregate semi-professional players from the blueberries fresh off the vine. ISK is not a bad way to separate people.
I have doubts about the details, but the principle of the idea is sound and should be a topic of conversation for the community.

Pretty good post; I would personally prefer a system that hard limits gear limits to certain types of battles, but this is a good start. |

I like this idea a little better, the original idea is a bit ambitious for the amount of players that actually play this game. +1 to OP for bringing it up, though. Personally, I would kill for a Militia Gear Only game mode. That would be the true test of a player's skill. |

Hal I know you love your drop ships and you know I (harkon) will always send you isk to buy DS... but even more than say 2 Mill a match is too much rewards for not enough effort. I could suffer though getting proto stomped on the daily if I got 12.5 million isk per match... also I don't see the need to constant give more benefits to the already top tier players,
If they are running proto they should be going deficit on ISK values. I know I am when I run proto.
EDIT- Sorry didn't read ISK pricing I like that we are spending more iSK to get goo stuff though Im more inclined to suggest
50K ISK per standard 375K Per Advanced and 500+ K per Protosuit
With Pirate Faction, Dead S[pace, Varients being even better. |

If/when they bring in better match making you should find the current payouts will change. Payouts are based upon the value of the equipment that gets destroyed during the match. So if you are in a 'higher tier' battle you will find your payout goes up.
There is also a measure in place with concern to the economy. In order that the economy is not flooded with too much isk (in aggregate) the payouts are actually adjusted towards a pre-calculated 'average'. This means that low payouts are adjusted up slightly and high payouts adjusted down slightly. The 2 CCP economists talk about this in their Fanfest talk. |
