I usually pick up the AV role in my squads,
My suit consists of.. Dren heavy, Comp Damage, Arm Repair, Arm Plates, Adv Assault Forge Gun/SMG/Locus Nade.... 506shield/6xx armor, for general pub tomfoolery.
Some maps this suit shines, wether on a roof or running on the ground (especially the bridge map).. others its not so useful (city maps specifically).
The forge gun wrecks cheap LAVs and Dropships, does well against HAVs of all flavors (some take more than a full clip to destroy unless I can hit them from behind), and it does ok against LLAVs (they can take up to 3 hits to destroy, and if they retreat can usually get away from me).
The above suit does ok against bad infantry..... those that bottle up in an area that allows me to punish them with splash damage and the occasional OHK. Or those that like to play peak-a-boo at a corner and allow me to get their timing down again for a OHK.
I will occasionally run proto forge in pubs if my enemies are running proto fits. The few PC matches I played last week I was able to flank enemy tanks fairly easily with my LAV or Dropship and get into position where they had no chance to kill me, and either got blown up or ran away. It still took me 5-7 shots with maxed out proto forge and 2x comp damage mods, so the weapon itself IMHO is not OP. But if you combine it with a tactically advantageous position (like behind, or above) then I can see why some tankers call for nerfs. My retort, buff your squad mates, team and situational awareness. :) I mean afterall, the one true counter to decked out well fit HAV is the forge gun... then swarms... then AV grenades. Tankes SHOULD have big problems with them.
The forge gun is not irrelevant, you may see a couple hundred WP reduction per game with the reduced number of OHK free LAV's running around. But think about it, if the enemy stops calling in vehicles because you are on the ground destroying them, you and your forge may be the MOST relevent merc on the battlefield.

Must disagree. Many people who have never fired a forge gun will ASSUME it is designed only for AV purposes. Nowhere in the description of the weapon has it ever been referenced as AV only. Actually, it is described as the most powerful weapon in the game, with big drawbacks.
Of all the weapons I have tried in this game, the forge gun has been the easiest to USE. However, it has been the hardest to MASTER. Reason being: learning the timing of the assault variant combined with leading a target, no ADS, long reload times, and being situatinally aware to avoid being snuck up on by scout/shotgunners and the like. |

ITs really about cause and effect
Before LAV's received the super buff 2 months ago, nobody complained about forge guns. And forge guns were the same back then as they are now.
Heavies got tired of being run over while running HMG suits. So they started investing in Forge guns... a month later the heavy masses got their proficiency up, access to proto, and started to counter the LAV epidemic. The last thing a forge gunner wants to do is treck over to a supply depot to switch to their HMG, so once the vehicles are dealt with they use the Forge to combat infantry. I know my MO is to combine forge splash with SMG and grenades to deal with infantry when I run that suit.. and it does well unless my enemy is highly skilled.
TL;DR
LAV's got buffed Forge guns became popular to counter them With practice heavies got good fighting infantry with a weapon previously used predominantly for AV only People ask for nerf for forge guns
Is it the situation or the weapon that needs addressing?
Im all for a tweak to vehicles, and I would like to see a reduction in cost and a buff to survivability to Dropships and maybe even Tanks. This is coming soonTM. But I dont think the weapon itself needs any major tweaks. |

Exmaple is a solid player and far from a dumbass. While I disagree with his position on forge guns, you shouldnt personally attack him for stating his opinion. Just sayin. |
