So that the thread on respecs... the one with the dev mentioning how they're never going to happen... just blinked out of existence...
Seems a pretty heavy handed method for trying to clean up a poor image. |

It was an active thread less than 10 minutes ago... with that nice big "Dev" tag next to it... not exactly something you can lose track of.
Was in the middle of posting a reply to it and as I submit the 404 page pops up and the thread is gone from the topic list.
Even went and checked all the other forum sections on the off chance someone pushed it to the feedback section but it's just plain gone.
Someone with mod powers is trying to carry out a very heavy handed publicity cleanup.

This is quite disturbing.
Locking the thread for whatever reason would be one thing, maybe deleting some posts if people were getting out of hand... but a heavy handed total deletion that just happens to take with it one of the few, if not only, instances of a Dev flat out saying not to expect any respecs?
I've had a thread that was deemed inappropriate in the past and it was almost immediately locked after an admin posted a warning in it, but it still existed as a locked thread. |

I'm not sure what is more telling...
That the initial thread disappearing without a trace or that this thread and the relatively few posts in it are the only mention of the whole thing. Threads with dev input, especially input on a subject as often brought up as respecs don't just disappear every day.
How afraid are people of getting caught in a deleted or locked thread? |

Not even close.
I can't see the whole thread title in my notifications but it started out with "Will there be..."
Also you're ignoring the mention of a Dev post within the thread.

Now it shows up when people start to ***** about it.
That's the thread in the exact condition it was when it disappeared and it wasn't there when you checked for Dev posts before.
Someone is trying to cover up the initial deletion.

Nice. interesting too. That was the longest....move...ever. What an hour or more it was deleted? Incidentally, now my "like" links work again. And my posts have magically reappeared in my post listing.
Exactly, this wasn't some simple move unless this forum is horribly inefficient. The thread disappeared from the "Dev Posts" section and all notifications redirected to a 404 page.

Guildo Crow wrote:Lots and lots of tinfoil hats. These forums are at the very least amusing.
A thread on a fairly sensitive subject featuring one of the few acknowledgements by a dev disappears for 1.5 hours until this thread starts asking questions and it mysteriously reappears with an "oh they must have moved it and you didn't notice" excuse.
I'll wear that tinfoil hat.

Read up, there's 1.5 hour discrepancy where it flat out didn't exist. The "Dev Posts" section had no record of it and all notifications links redirected to a 404 until it suddenly popped back into existence and everything fell into place as if nothing happened.
