PVE, substantial EVE interaction, and matchmaking are 3 things that would really help retain players, but all 3 things are absent, and could take years to implement. I want this game to succeed, and I know it can (on the PS4) I am just curious how long it can stay in this semi-beta state. No it will not we will never have more than 16 vs 16. So that will keep this game going for a while. I do see Sony pulling the plug cuz of lack of revenue. If Sony is under contract with CCP(which they likely are) then it is not as simple as "pulling the plug" they must honor the terms of the contract for the duration of time outlined in the contract. Unless you happen to be privy to the terms of the contract between CCP and Sony, then anything you say on the matter is solely speculative. Having said that, CCP has stated that this game has at least a 10 year plan. It is very likely that the terms of the contract extend for that length of time as well. Granted it may be in the terms to eventually port it to the PS4, but I don't see that happening for at least 3 or 4 years. That will, believe it or not, be ample time to build a substantial playerbase on the PS3 even after the release of the PS4. Ample time as well to have a very polished game with excellent core mechanics, and a massive amount of content.
you really believe most folks are going to keep their ps3 over a ps4 for the next 4 years because of this game. newsflash, new players that have yet to try dust and fail to try dust before they go out and get a ps4 will not try dust on a ps3 because they will all being playing their brand new console.

the player counts are abysmal whether you admit or not. games will not survive long with counts as low as this. since dust is a free to play, that means they need you to buy aurum to make a profit on the game. if development costs exceed what they are bringing in for revenue they will shut it down. CCP is not stupid. That is ok, go on believing that there will be some magical influx of new players. The numbers say otherwise. |

It's good already, and it will be better, and better every month, because game will grow up and it's gone be more attractive.

CCP will not continue to bleed funds from eve to support dust. they want dust to survive and be profitable on its own. they will give it a chance to do so, but if it does not eventually sustain itself, they will cut it loose. All corporations eventually sever ties with money losing departments. Failure to do so hurts the bottom line. It is about real money, not ISK. Keep living in unicorn land if that makes you feel better.

you must be in you early 20s... when ps3 came out ps2 still sold well for years.... it will be the same
Exactly! Sony only stopped manufacturing ps2's in 2012, and the last ever ps2 game is FIFA 14.
you guys are missing the point. new players will gravitate towards the new consoles. did it ever occur to you that lots of those sales were to replaced old and broken ps2 systems. there was also a huge price gap between systems. you are also forgetting the amount of players on dust right now that will abandon it for ps4 games. If you really believe they will all come back then you are truly living in unicorn fanboi land. The numbers of people playing are extremely low whether you want to admit or not. Lots of those numbers also do not take into account the folks just sitting in the mcc afking instead of actually playing. Sure it may get some new players on ps3, but not the influx and droves that you folks believe are coming to this game. The graphs show a downward trend in then numbers playing the game and a downward trend in new clones being born. Also, some of those new clones being born, are from people's alt accounts, so they are not really new. Get your head out of the sand.

not to beat a dead horse, but look at MAG. even in it's prime, there were only like 5000 people on at any given time, and it sold over 1 million copies. even now MAG has about 1500 or more people on (i haven't played in over a year, but i check the forums sometimes... runs about 1500-2000 from what i read.)
i'm sure the numbers are the same with BF and COD (i never played them, so i wouldn't know).
point is, you never log onto a game and see ALL the people who play on at one time. if Dust's numbers are so low, i would have trouble getting into matches. never have that issue. (unlike our favorite MAG where 3 of the 5 game modes are dead due to lack of players). sure it's only 16 vs 16, making matches easier to build, but to go from one game right into another and see all new names still says people are playing.
the day i can't get into matches, or those matches are only like 10vs10 or something, then i'll start to get worried. until then, i'm going to sit back and watch this game develop into the version CCP promised us. by the time that happens, i'll have all the skills filled to all the levels i want and waiting to do some damage. like infiltrating a Titian or space station.
dude, BF3 has loads of folks on with healthier numbers on just for the ps3 version than dust has, even the original black ops a 3 year old game has more folks on than dust and so does defiance and that game is shtako.

Word is out that Dust is horrible. LOL wow you're going all the way back to the very beginning of the NES/Sega Genesis Era. I don't think there were too many FPS titles back then. I'm pretty sure that there were no MMOs either. I can think of a couple Catacomb 3D Wolfenstien Doom
I'm so old I played Pong on the Collecovision.
