Is the range amplification module any use to a sniper? As I understand it the range amp only gives a bonus to the suits scan radius which is 10metres, so even a complex range amp is only going to increase that to 14.5metres. In sniper mode if I'm on the ball I can see people out to 400ish metres so to my mind the range amp has no bearing on the sniper fit....
Am I correct or is there something I'm missing? |

Passive scanning isn't limited to your sight arc. You can see 400m in front of you. How far can you see BEHIND you?
If you don't lower your scope to check your minimap, it's not very useful. If you have someone watching your back, it doesn't matter. If you're frequently checking behind you, it's not as important.
Also, you can increase the base range to 15m with Long Range Scanning, and if you're running the Gallente Scout, you can further buff that to a little over 20m. Add a module on top of that, and you're looking at about 30m scan radius, which is almost enough to be useful. |

Don't get the scanning/dampening/range skills waste of SP. Currently broken. |

everything is broken.
Better to do like i do and don't spend SP on anything. It is the only thing close to hardcore this game has to offer.

That's one thing I've wondered. Does your scan precision / damping have any effect on how easy it is to see someone if they are outside your scan radius?
So if someone is 100m away will it be difficult to highlight them with your crosshair if they have good scan damping? |

So if someone is 100m away will it be difficult to highlight them with your crosshair if they have good scan damping? If you centre someone in your crosshairs, they always light up, and Profile Dampening doesn't have any impact on that.
I (still) haven't tested this in the current build, but I know in Chromosome and before, Profile Dampening affected how quickly your HUD marker disappeared when you moved out of enemy LoS. With Active Scanners having a fixed duration of marking effect, they may have changed this, or it's possible it only applies to other methods of spotting and not the Active Scanners. |

I'd like to know if there's any way to switch over to sisi to do some testing, as testing on TQ is just asking to get popped by anyone who isn't aware that you're testing. |

Because of how the modules are compounded and that there is no stacking penalty on range amplifiers, if you go with Gallente scout you could get
50% bonus from racial bonus 50% bonus from range amplification skill 45% from complex range amplifier x3 (use the 4th slot for a armor repairer)
10*1.5*1.5*(1.45)^3 = 68.6 meters. That can be quite useful, even for a sniper in case you don't want anyone sneaking up on you. |

Yeh that is handy as a general all round scanning skill but its seems its of no use to the aim of a sniper. I'd like to have a possible edge over another sniper who is looking for me, but because I have range mods and skills he might not have, I'd be able to see him without him seeing me. Shame it's not the case. Maybe I should make a suggestion in the requests forum. |

Oops, too late!
I've noticed some small benefit with these skills in uprising. They don't seem 'broken' but they provide extremely minimal benefit for the SP investment. This is magnified by the fact that all suits share the same meager 10m scan range. In a sense, the passive scanning is not set up to correctly benefit much from skilling into these skills.
I also second the comment that the only thing I can think of in terms of scan range benefit for a sniper is to help you notice (on your TACNET) any enemies that may be approaching you outside your line of sight. But, by the time enemies get to ~15m, it may be too late for you. And if they are a scout with reasonable profile dampening, you may not notice them anyway inside that range.

It's not good for the direct act of sniping, but it would help you to save yourself if a Shotgunner is sneaking up behind you.
That's a pretty important concern for a lot of Snipers. |
