Passive scanning isn't limited to your sight arc. You can see 400m in front of you. How far can you see BEHIND you?
If you don't lower your scope to check your minimap, it's not very useful. If you have someone watching your back, it doesn't matter. If you're frequently checking behind you, it's not as important.
Also, you can increase the base range to 15m with Long Range Scanning, and if you're running the Gallente Scout, you can further buff that to a little over 20m. Add a module on top of that, and you're looking at about 30m scan radius, which is almost enough to be useful. |

So if someone is 100m away will it be difficult to highlight them with your crosshair if they have good scan damping? If you centre someone in your crosshairs, they always light up, and Profile Dampening doesn't have any impact on that.
I (still) haven't tested this in the current build, but I know in Chromosome and before, Profile Dampening affected how quickly your HUD marker disappeared when you moved out of enemy LoS. With Active Scanners having a fixed duration of marking effect, they may have changed this, or it's possible it only applies to other methods of spotting and not the Active Scanners. |

50% bonus from racial bonus 50% bonus from range amplification skill 45% from complex range amplifier x3 (use the 4th slot for a armor repairer)
10*1.5*1.5*(1.45)^3 = 68.6 meters. That can be quite useful, even for a sniper in case you don't want anyone sneaking up on you. Yeh that is handy as a general all round scanning skill but its seems its of no use to the aim of a sniper. I'd like to have a possible edge over another sniper who is looking for me, but because I have range mods and skills he might not have, I'd be able to see him without him seeing me. Shame it's not the case. Maybe I should make a suggestion in the requests forum. It's not good for the direct act of sniping, but it would help you to save yourself if a Shotgunner is sneaking up behind you.
That's a pretty important concern for a lot of Snipers. |
