People have been saying that the playerbase is getting smaller. Did CCP just slap in the numbers of the EVE Players to save face because of that? Or is it that Dust have merged completely with EVE Online that the numbers merged as well? What is the average numbers of Dust players now? I personally want to get more people on Dust 514, but I cannot seem to convince some of my illiterate friends to join due to the complexity of the game. I do know that EVE Online has a stable, decent playerbase. But Dust is a FPS and the regular FPS audience wants something more of quick-paced action.

Actually, it may seem that the number of females may be growing. I'm sure that some guys do play female avatars and that would bring in more female players. But I think this game appeals to women because of the female suits and that it's more cooperative than the ego-shooter lone wolf COD. Dust 514 is doing a good job of that, but I think maybe if they add in more speed and big explosives and nukes, it would make the guys' eyes and balls burst and that will grow the playerbase better. What are your thoughts?

 dust is not an FPS

it is FPS like but it is something more .... a hybrid....a melting pot of fps mech mmo and rpg,,,, and it is just a "demo" right now for lack of a better description.... the reason why the eve players are lumped in is because we are all on the same server and as time passes and we are integrated with our eve brothers and sisters those numbers will be more meaningful to dust players. im starting to realize more and more that a lot of people really don't get what this game is....

most of them being the dedicated fps players... some of them get it but most of them eat sleep and poop COD and it will be a reliefe when they quit...

for the rest of us in it for the long haul the real fun begins in about 18 months I predict... unless CCP really effs up or hits an unforeseen snag

Why is it every time someone says something about Dust that needs improving, folks call them Cod fans? Not everyone who says things need to improve likes Cod. Personally I think CoD is crap.

Dust is a FPS. I agree that it is more than just FPS, but for the most part it's the main thing. This game is played mainly in first person view. Few 3rd person elements are in the game, but it's in the minority like vehicles and a few other things. I can see what you mean with the "mech mmo and rpg." It probably feels a bit like Chrome Hound, Armored Core, or Valkyrie Chronicles. As of late, many regular games are incorporating RPG elements in them such as experience points, levels, and things like that. COD and BF3 have similar systems. Pure RPGs are not phased out yet, but will become indistinguishable. I can also see that Dust 514 has a bit of strategy in it with the map planning and relocations. But overall the meat of the game is FPS.

Make no mistake, CCP can brake down numbers to atom level. They have just disguised it for now.

I think most female players use male characters to avoid harassment, and male players use female characters to see how many dudes he can fool to shed a few sharp comments.

If female players actually like Dust more than the average FPS I would say it's because the relatively mature level of the player base. The skill system scares away most jailbait.

My wife is a little disappointed that her character now walks like Sylvester Stallone, but otherwise she seems to like the game.

I expect CCP combined the numbers because all the GÇ£Dust is dyingGÇ¥ threads were clogging up the General Discussion forums. The DUST player base is not going to go up significantly until it has more content, and CCP is making sure that the base mechanics work well before they start focussing on adding a lot of new content. The 1.2 patch made the basic game play much better. Hopefully the next full expansion will have PVE, and that should bump the long term player base up a notch. It will be another 2 years before DUST has a player base comparable to other big name FPS games. In 5 years DUST will be the biggest FPS and is likely to stay that way for a long time. All those years of content development will add up.

How on Earth are folks coming to the conclusion that the female player base seems to be growing??

Seriously man, don't tell me that this is due to some subjective recognition of more female suits in the warbarge, and then some assessment or estimate of how many female suits are actually girls, and how many male suits are girls....?

Seems to me about all that can be told is that average number of players playing the game at any given time seems to be decreasing....

23,000? Are you serious? Where did you get that information? I used to play Counter Strike a lot long time ago, but I didn't think it would remain popular. Is it the new one, Counter Strike: Global Offensive?

Most female suits are guys that picked woman suit. They thought the hitbox was smaller on a female so that was the reason back in the begijnning.

More females may be playing this game because it is free. A lot of them might be into sports games, race games and single player games. Girls dig racing games :D Well, who doesn't :)

May not have picked up COD or BF3 because they saw it as too violent, not trying to say women are weak or anything, I just know a lot of girls that hate any and all violence or at least realistic/graphic violence.Or they thought bad stuff of the community, I.E the Dust community is a bit more mature and is usually more respectful towards their female counterparts.

For some reason I have yet to rationalize; a lot of guys tend to play this game with their girlfriends. Not really sure why I see this so much on this game over others.
