After hearing the numerous cries of the laser rifle getting nerfed and receiving my free 50 copies of the Burnstalk laser rifle in the newsletter, I decided to test it out.
The first few matches were a complete fail, with me going 0-7 with about 3 kill assists. Then, when I was down to about 30 or so copies, I began to study the laser rifle's effectiveness. During my first match of "serious" testing, I found that the laser rifle has a "sweet spot" where it just tore through shields and armour like nothing. That sweet spot was at a fairly extreme range that was unspecified until I began to pay attention to the scan data.
Upon further analysis of the scan data, I found that the laser rifle does next to nothing at the closer end of medium ranges. At 0-40 meters, the damage efficiency, even on shields, is about 30-40%. When bumped up to 50-80 meters, the laser rifle begins to deal damage. At max(ish) range, of 80-90 meters, the laser rifle can tear through both shields and armour with terrifying speed, getting a 120% efficiency on shields.
So far, this weapon is made for long range support and has the potential to fire out of the assault rifle's effective range when itself is in its most effective range. It also has the potential to take out Caldari logistics with somewhat ease. Still needs testing with the advanced laser rifle using damage mods.
TL;DR: As range increases, damage increases. |

The problem is that sweet spot is so small that they can sprint away or toward you well before you realize they are in your sweet spot. And once ADS, it tracks too slowly to make pinpoint accurate tracking viable without a gaming mouse to up the sensitivity at a whim. Which no player should be forced to get a gaming mouse like that.
If they got rid of the Ironsights, and fixed the ADS speed back to what it was prior to uprising, you would see a lot more lasers with no dmg change needed. |

The sweet spot was in the 60-90 meter range, but you're right about what you said... Especially sprinting towards you when you have the laser rifle... |

"sweet spot is at long range"
So lets give it an iron sight and no zoom! Of course... why would someone shooting a person 80m away want zoom or an unobstructed view of their target? |

There is a zoom... But it's quite minor. And you're right about the iron-sights on this weapon being crappy. |

The damage is pretty decent on it imo.. the iron sights are what ruins it. |
