just did an academy game where my squad all spawned soma tanks. we fully expected to die within the first min of combat but was surprised when we lasted almost to the end of the fight. it was allot of fun driving as a tank column and i'm sure that guy with the swarm launcher had allot of fun taking us all out.
which brings me onto some ideas for public matches based around tank combat.
15 vs 15
Tank vs Tank
this mode is as it suggests but 3 man squad based with everyone locked in the vehicle (squad commander must have an available tank in his inventory that he can pilot in order to be able to que). this mode would have an rdv limit instead of a clone limit and works in a similar way as ambush maps do so when you run out of rdv's you loose. the squad commander can select from multiple ground spawn points to deploy into battle. as all players are in tanks the rewards are much greater than current pub matches but so are the risks.all these maps would be open ground warfare with various types of cover.
vehicle vs vehicle
this mode is similar to above but allows the use of all other vehicle types(all players locked in). this mode allows players to use LAV's, LLavs, Dropships, tanks.this mode is much like logi/fast assault/heavy combined combat on the ground but at a vehicle level. for this mode lav's would be 2 man requirements while dropships and tanks would be 3. as there is a 15 vs 15 limit on these matches this game would be better as organised teams so some sort of team selection screen would be best to make this work or make this mode have a certain amount of each type of vehicle only and allow squad commanders to select matches with a free vehicle slot they can fill. this match would have a clone limit like ambush. more lav's = bigger clone pool, speed, low cost, logistics at the expense of dps, tank. tanks on the other hand would deplete the pool faster if you die. key here is balance and this is where llav's would come in to keep vehicles alive. dropships would provide recon, logistics/dps also but same senario as tanks as they cost more clones.
player vs vehicle
i was going to suggest this but its just what we have now and i don't believe it could be balanced in a way to get people to play it. much like the tank column we did on the academy match. we had the upper hand at all times so wouldnt be fair on the troops on the ground
i also think these 2 modes would be nice tournament games providing similar fights to what we see and love on eve tournaments. |
