From the point of view of itemising all the faults of DUST, this is a good review (if you are a dev and you are keen to do something about it):
http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/07/14/eve-evolved-first-impressions-of-dust-514/
To this list I would add that dropships need some love. At the moment, too few people are using them (what is the advantage in using one?), which is why they probably didn't feature in this review.
To fix the issue of new players getting owned by old players Make DUST like Eve Online, i.e. - veterans fight in different parts of the universe and do different things because the rewards are greater elsewhere and are a better match for them.
(For heaven's sake, don't go for a quick fix and nerf the vets! - That might kill DUST completely) |

hamual jackson wrote:This review was really accurate about the things a new player would encounter, only they would start with 500k sp not 3 mil as he did. I always said Dust 514 is a back burner game, EVE is the real bread and butter.
You are probably right.
The frustrating thing is that both Eve and DUST have so much massive potential that it's irritating when they don't quite hit the mark.
For example, do you remember that film Starship Troopers? DUST has the potential to be better than that film because of the potential of rogue drone PvE, but this isn't in the game yet.
DUST could easily be one of the best games in the world, but it doesn't quite do it. |

Still, all of the game imbalances in the world could probably be forgiven if CCP would get on with the vision of this game. Instead of focusing on fixing everything that's wrong with it currently, an ongoing process with no real end, I think CCP should plow full steam ahead with the EVE/DUST integration. If players can SEE where this is all headed then more people will get behind it for sure. If EVE pilots can better profit from having DUST bunnies in-house they will do whatever they can to get them. On the DUST side I think players need to be able to spend their ISK on more than just perishable equipment. Planets should have settlements with more complex interaction. Player quarters should be more personalized. Everything about this game should feel more "real". Currently it feels like a mediocre arcade game with hardly any persistent qualities.
I totally agree with you as well.
Nerfing doesn't fix things - it just annoys the people who took the trouble of getting the skill points.
Plowing full steam ahead with EVE/DUST integration is the way to go.
Settlements with more complex interaction sounds very exciting.
I agree with you - the DUST world doesn't feel personalised as it is at the moment. |
