Well, I'm a newcomer to Dust, and so far I've loved the setting and the general team-objective focused gameplay, along the RP elements included in it. I found it easy to play until suddenly I was out of the 'rookie grounds', and now I can barely get a kill per life.
I've played both CoD and BF Bad Company 2 before on the PS3, I'm playing Dust in my PS3 too. The gameplay feels alot like BF's and the whole '****, there is the tank runrunrunrunrunrun' feeling is really familiar to me.
- My fav mode is Skirmish (I believe? I play in spanish... the mode where you hack a set of bateries to destroy the other team's ship), but every game I've played so far, it is imposible to either capture or defend a point if a heavy with their minigun is present in the area. I believe that heavies are OP in the way they get the biggest and most powerful guns, enough shields to take on a squad, and their movility problems are not really a problem since they can easily drive their cars to where they're needed.
- At some point in the fight, the other team already haves all the points and every try to take any is usually stopped by an heavy. What can I do? I always end up taking the sniper set and trying to not end up negative.
- Heavies can't be sniped, the three bullets from the tac sniper to the head does not even deplete their shields.
- I was running around with anti vehicle grenades, I stumble into a hostile tank and I throw my 3 grenades... they barely dented its shields and he shot me dead. I checked and the rocket launcher does the same damage. How the hell I am I supposed to fight it?
I'd like to know what to do in such moments and tips to kill something in my 3 minutes of survival during each life. Thanks to everyone who gives advise.

I ' m not going to say you are wrong, because everything you mention I have experienced. But you're looking in the wrong direction. It's not heavies being over powered , even agaisn't sniping , because they aren't the only one's you can't take down even with numerous hits. the minigun isn't a super weapon either. In militia or basic gear you're pretty much dead as soon as someone wants you that way. Or maybe that's just me.
What you need to look at is how many skill points the other players have. And realize what those SP allow them to do and use. You can be sure that a player with 8 mil SP is far more well equiped, and able to survive what a player with 1, or 2, or whatever, million SP. Don't fall into the trap of thinking everything is over powered. There are balance issues in those game. I had the same experience coming out of the academy not long ago. It's actually not over yet. I've only neen playing a month. Where my KDR in the academy was a little better then even, it's not even close right now. It's getting better. I learn things the hard way though... |

Welcome to New Eden.
It might be a while before you start seeing your K/D go up. You are getting thrown in with the vets that have 12+ mil sp. My advice for you now, find a corp and run with a squad.
Once you get some SP under your belt, you will find that heavies are not that OP. With decent coordination, 1-2 assaults/scouts can take a heavy out.
Proto stomping pub matches has been a problem. I think CCP is currently working on a better match making system. For now, find a corp that can train you in squad tactics and proper SP usage.
I think you are using the Tac Assault Rifle, not the Tac Sniper Rifle. 3 shots from the Tac AR may not deplete a heavies shields, but you should not try to solo one now. The Tac Sniper Rifle should not be used for close range, just in case you did mean it.
If you are using basic AV grenades, then I would assume so. The basic AV weapons will not be enough to effectively counter tanks. You will need to spend SP in to a specific AV weapon before it becomes effective. The advanced and prototype grenades might be a good option if you are unwilling to spend a lot of SP in to AV weapons.
Again, find a corp. Dust University and Bojo's School of the Trades accepts new players and are solely training corps. Running with a decent squad will raise your survivability.
Hope this helps.
Edit: I forgot to add, I have a Guide Compilation that is good for new players that you should check out.

The advice given above is pretty sound. All of it. Seriously give it a thought. I've "sponsored" some new guys in the last 4-6 months and they had the same issues. Hell, I still have some of the problems you're having and I've been playing for roughly 10-11 months. The best advice I can give you over the forums is learn your equipments limitations, don't put yourself in a position you or your equipment can't handle and lastly FLAAAAANK. Flank flank flank. Also look at the skill list and start planning on maxing out the core skills soon: Dropsuit Engineering, Dropsuit Electronics, Dropsuit Shield Upgrades, Dropsuit Armor Upgrades, Dropsuit Core Upgrades. These will ensure whatever suit you use will be performing at max capability regardless of your yet to be polished actual skill. Also, pick a primary and secondary role. All your skill points should go into those roles. All of this will help you be more effecient on the field and should lead to more better gains. Don't worry so much about your kd/r yet. Get your roles down. Just know it's going to take awhile. And don't forget to flank. I hear dedicated logi's rule the infantry wp earnings... Good hunting. |

Oh yeah I should specify that by role I mean skills, equipment, modules and weapons. And yes what you want to do on the battlefield. You can generally get by with either standard or advanced weaponry btw. As far as suits go don't be too hasty to get into a proto suit. They're expensive and if your skill isn't there you're just throwing money on to the field. Your isk and sp is better spent elsewhere at the start of your career. Good hunting. |

Better gear tends to get better results but if you working with a decent squad I've seen proto players Red Zoned even with militia grade weapons and a few decent mods. Also reloading at a supply Depo helps bringing down pesky tanks and heavies when you switch to shield breaking weapons and Armor busting projectiles. Here are a few other basics I posted a few days ago:
There was a new Merc who needed a few basic tips just to help him stay alive longer than 60 seconds here was my advice:
1. Try to run with a squad as this will increase the probability of them calling out enemies and Orbitals 2. If you do solo, scout it out and infiltrate or catch stragglers by surprise you could also snipe or hold down a position .DO not try running for objectives if your a one man team or you might just be a lead punching bag or an item on the Road Kill menu. 3. USE cover even if you think your Tactical Duvall is the end all to all opposers, chances are there is some one not in your sight gunning for you. 4. Its OK to run away. 5. Practice and use your sidearm. 6 Practice and use grenades 7. Watch for chokes points, this means that you don't run in the same corridors, hallways, areas where the last 7 or 8 blues just died because the enemy is choking you guys through the sam openings. 8. Have short term goals for example=10 kills with less than 6 deaths when you reach this, just back off and support, or hold down an area. 9.There is no such thing as Rambo..wait you might not get that reference..hmm ,you aren't going kill everyone the first 5 minutes of a game, let them come to you.
Just a few to help ya out Rookie
Just a humble Merc here Vets so feel free to pass on any useful advice for the new clone behind you.
See ya in my sights |

Like many have said join a corp. I highly suggest Dust University, but I may slightly biased
Most likely you ran into a guy who has 10+ million SP and running full proto gear. One thing to keep in mind when you run across a heavy is that while their gun may pack a punch and they have lots of HP is that they are slow. Meaning that you should alter your tactics a bit and try and flank them then strafe them while staying behind them. Their turn speed is pretty awful so if you are fast you should be able to whittle them down. Also, softening them up with a flux grenade then spraying them with a SMG is a good choice too. In any case welcome and good luck! Remember that running away isn't a bad thing. Its tactical retreat! |

I'd like to point out that there are some quirks in Dust that you need to get used to before you can make the most of your playtime.
Combat in Dust are extremely situational. That means you'll mostly be trying to get yourself into a situation where your outfit is strong while keeping others in a position where they can't use their equipment effectively. That seems like a very simply statement but it has a lot of implications. Your style of fighting changes completely depending on whether you've equipped a Gallente or Caldari suit, or whether you've equipped an Assault Rifle or a Scrambler Rifle, or whether you've equipped Flux or Locus grenades. Similarly your approach should vary depending on what kind of equipment the enemy is using.
It's extremely tough to have a go at this game with a fresh account and I applaud you for your attempt of having a go at it. I know I'm still struggling with my equipment against the Protobears, but at least some of the harshness can be reduced if you have a good think about why you aren't performing as you'd like. |

Baiting is also an effective tactic in certain situations if a heavy is on a point draw him out in the open and let your squad do the work |

Ok thanks guys, I took my sweet time reading all of the guides in that link over there and sucking in tactics.
My first fault I've found is the fact I tend to run foward when facing an enemy, never realised it usually made me a bigger target. I found good in that I already know the flaking techniques and stuff, specially how to move in the battlefield and not get killed.
Also, some games later made me realise that the team I played that time with just camped around the spawn, trying to get kills, meanwhile olny me pushed for the objective.
I'd like to ask, there is some way you can reset your points? Because I already put most of them just in the SR sector and I feel change of heart respect to them.
There is a way I can comunicate without a mic? Because I lack one. |

at this point no, respecs are not avalible. However, this is New Eden, no SP spent is ever wasted, it'll take a while to get high level gear in other specialisations yes, but getting basic gear is easy, and can be done with a few matches worth of SP.
as to comms, yes there is a text chat hit select and that will open the chat windows, however voice comms is best, as trying to type in combat is bad.
as others have said Welcome to New Eden. I would say run away, but it's to late, you know you're hooked :) |
