Earthshatter here, with just a small suggestion that would make VR training a little easier to implement.
I remember reading in an older thread (can somebody link it?) that CCP couldn't implement VR because Tranquility views every item as "real", and equipment would be lost in the VR room just like a regular match. My solution is simple: add a set of BPOs for almost all items, and put a "luggage tag" of code on them that prevents them from being used in regular matches. When a VR arena is loaded, set the VR "gamemode" to check equipment for the BPOs luggage tag before allowing it to spawn in, meaning that only those BPOs can be used in VR. Although TQ would still consider the items "real", they don't act like real items because they can only be used in VR, and are infinite-use.
The only caveats are: >As they are items, they will likely have to be bought on the Market. a 1-ISK price should be OK for a solution here. This can be explained lore-wise by referring to them as weapon/module programs for the VR computer, which are cheap but still go through regular market-distribution protocol. >My suggestion doesn't cover skill bonuses, as it would require a full-length VR suggestion to detail properly. |

Is this "VR training" a pvp mode? Because if it's not PvP, why would you be losing items in the first place? |

In a prior CCP post it was specified that one of the reasons they couldn't implement VR yet was that all items in the TQ server are marked as "real", and any non-BPO item in your loadout will always be used up when you die in the game. It is assumed that a VR mode would have a PvP practice option, hence the need for a solution to the above. |
