After the reimbursement post-Closed Beta, many of us received a couple hundred million ISK. If you can run proto in pub and PC matches and still make a profit, which is easier than ever due to the increased payout from PC, then ISK becomes essentially meaningless.
The same goes for corporations. A lot of the more PC-successful corps are just sitting on mountains of ISK with not much to do with it.
In EVE you can buy bigger and better ships, more materials or blueprints, etc, but in Dust there's a very shallow toilet to flush your ISK down. My question is, when is ISK going to stop being a (functionally) limitless number and instead become a managed resource?
Also up for discussion/suggestion is what you'd want to see available for ISK. Personally I'd like to see a Corp Armory and Corp Training Grounds available for purchase which we've all been clamoring for. This gives some benefit (and purpose) for ISK but doesn't provide anything game-breaking. It would be kind of nice to see certain boosters up for an ISK cost as well. |

This isn't to make the people who can't/don't run proto feel inferior. It's to point out that there's a decent percentage of the player-base, arguably the most active, that has nothing to do with the in-game currency.
We could trade it all in for more suits, but that just side-steps the problem. Then I have functionally limitless suits instead of functionally limitless ISK. |

Maybe everyone could get the weapons range, but they have to buy a specific version (call it like a Blueprint Test - BPT) of a weapon that cost a lot more but was unlimited (like a BPO) and you could only use in the firing range. That way everyone can try the weapons they're interested in, and those with more ISK can try more weapons. You could also buy different BPT targets to shoot at, like LLAVs, regular LAVs, different types of HAVs, etc.
That would be pretty cool. |

You could all run militia fits and you'd still hit about the 1,400,000 mark even if not a single clone was lost in the battle on either side because 150 minimum die on the losing side, each worth 150,000 ISK and only the winners get ISK rewards. Even if you're only hit with a gen pack you'd still hit the 930,000 mark. |

We could trade it all in for more suits, but that just side-steps the problem. Then I have functionally limitless suits instead of functionally limitless ISK. Only a tiny minority runs PC as CCP admits...and if you run public games, and look at the w/l ratio of most people, you'll realise that the MAJORITY couldn't afford to run proto suits. So if you make it even harder for them to run proto, you are penalising the MAJORITY. So any new isk sink would have to ADD to the game for the MINORITY that swims in isk...without penalising the MAJORITY.
I don't deny the majority can't. But you can't deny it's the active players that invest the most time into this game (by definition) and so are probably better at it (most of the time) and therefore will be the ones more likely to have surplus ISK. These are the people I'm talking about. I think it's a large enough percentage to warrant some attention considering it's the most active part of the playerbase.
If players can't run proto gear continuously then fine, they don't have to. For those of us who can, the in-game currency is irrelevant. I'm not asking for game-breaking advantages, or even exclusive advantages. All of my previous suggestions give a benefit to having extra ISK but don't penalize anyone for not having it. Right now if someone can run proto all the time and not lose money, then there's no difference between having 50 million ISK and 5 billion ISK.
Doing things like raising the price of proto gear to absurd levels doesn't help anyone and isn't something I advocate. |

Boot Booter wrote:Yes, once you have a large amount of ISK and are good enough to run proto every match, ISK becomes useless. I'd like to see some customization of my merc quarters. My couch is looking pretty ratty and my bed is way too small. Maybe a fish bowl on the table. At least it would give me something to waste isk on.
Fish bowl FTW!!
I'd like a Slay table that can connect to other people who bought it for their merc quarters so I don't need to go on PSHome every time I get that strategic itch. |

R'adeh Hunt wrote:The thing is, you shouldn't be playing for ISK, you should play it because you're having fun.
The same goes for EVE. When I started out, I was blown away making my first million. Later on, my first billion blew me away. However, after a few years (yes, I was slow), I got into trading and suddenly I had more ISK than I could possibly lose while PVPing. I had mates make fun of me for faction and officer fitting pretty much every PVP ship I used. What some of them didn't realise is that I play the game for fun, not to make ISK. It's just a means to an end, and tbh, the fun didn't really increase by flying more expensive ships. As it stands now, I tend to trade (mostly station trading because I'm lazy) for a month and that tends to last me for a year of PVP in EVE. Pays for my subscription too...
ISK is like money in real life...it's useful, but once you reach a certain level it has diminishing returns.
PS: I want a bar in my quarters and would pay for that...
That's all well and good for you, but if the in-game currency becomes meaningless after less than a year playing the game, then it gets boring. I use the best gear possible in every scenario and keep making money. It's nice but at the same time I look at the game and realize how shallow it is in all respects other than the skill tree.
There are plenty of things I'd be more than willing to pay ISK for but can't because it's useless. I enjoy Dust sometimes, but when I hit my SP cap there's no reason at all for me to play. I come on for a few PC matches or maybe go on an alt, but I have no desire to play my main because there's nothing to strive towards. The soft SP cap I agree with, but if I could work towards something that costs ISK, it would provide more incentive to play the game, which is something Dust sorely needs.
If you don't want to play for ISK, fine, but that doesn't mean those of us sitting on piles of it shouldn't have anything to spend it on. |

I usually prefer things that serve a practical function instead of something purely aesthetic, but it would be cool to be able to place decals of your Corp logo or name on LAVs, Tanks, Dropships and Dropsuits for example. |
