Ditch the armor plates... you are Caldari, shields are your best friend. Go 3x complex shields instead.
I have found movement speed (and sprint speed) is extremely important in terms of survival. That extra armor does you no good if you are slow, because it makes you an easier target to shoot/run over/grenade/etc. Being faster and more agile with less overall HP is infinitely better IMO. I have been able to get out of so many sticky situations running complex catalyzers vs not having any speed mods. A flux nade will be the bane of your existence, but at least you can run away at a decent speed.
I assume your C/1 is an assault (rather than the logi C/1), which means you already have good enough armor at default. If you really feel the need to use armor, use ferroscale plates - no movement speed penalty.
My suggestions:
- Get complex shield extenders ASAP - Try to get at least advanced catalyzers and put one on your suit.
If you have enough CPU/PG, slap a ferro plate on the last slot for a slight boost in armor with no speed penalty. Or use that last slot of PG/CPU boost to run better weapons.
Also as an assault, your best bet is to run nanohives most of the time.

To fit 3x Complex shield extenders you need 1) proto level skills in extenders and 2) most likely proto drop suit for the fitting requirements unless he's maxxed out every other core skill (which is just as bad). I'd suggest that advising him to "go proto" is going to be of limited use to him as he stands.
Up to Uprising I used nothing but advanced assault suits (never made it to proto assault cause it was extremely expensive), fitting complex shield extenders on an advanced assault is entirely possible and definitely a wise choice. Heck, I was able to run all complex shields, basic armor repair, standard locus, standard nanohive (when std was all you really needed) and a Duvolle/Balacs on my adv suit pre-uprising. I stretched that suit like no other, so I know it can be done.
Either that or he jumps into his proto suit, cause most (like I did until uprising) won't want to shell out the SP to go proto... therefore never will get it. Working top down is almost the best choice in this game when it comes to the suits. Get proto first, then worry about core skills. |
