So, I skilled into the Gallente Assault Dropship, because I figured I needed something to fly and still be deadly, and if all else fails, I have a ship that moves fast enough to take me where I want to go without a huge chance of being shooted to death.
After a couple ships wasted, and down about 2 million ISK (That skill book price needs a nerf...), I realized that these things are ****ing hard to use. I'm already a skilled pilot. Every match when I'm not on the ground, supporting my squad, I'm up on the highest building, inaccessible by anything else OTHER than a Dropship.
Before the Incubus, I flew a Grimsnes fitted with an Afterburner, Maybe a light Armor Plate, PG Upgrades, and a Crisis Damage Control Unit. As you can see from just that, I probably suck at fitting these. Actually, just vehicles in general, I suck at fitting. I got a Caldari LLAV that's missing a couple slots because of how terrible I am.
My main issue, I think, is trying to aim and stay still. I assume (Haven't met a lot of Dropships that haven't had a complete idiot piloting them yet...) that I'd make a good anti-air vehicle if I have blasters. Just try to match their speed, and fire away. However, when it comes to ground, I can't keep myself still to aim and shoot at the same time. I've tried first-person mode, but then when I try to aim down to actually get a good shot in (Otherwise, I'm above their heads, or just not confident in my shot), I end up moving forward and have to back out so I don't enter the same physical space as the wall. Which is impossible. I'D CRASH.
So yea. What I'm mainly looking for is a skilled Assault Dropship Pilot (I've seen people go 20/0 or something similar...) that can share his/her fitting and maybe give a couple tips on flying and killing with these beasts?
Thanks in advance, you guys are great. :D |

If you want to aim use third person, also I recommend using fragmented or accelerated missiles, they're the best for air to air and air to ground. Blasters aren't actually that good at air to air, also if you get into a dogfight with a python in an incubus god help you.
As for aiming tips, spam the trigger, hope for the best, and don't fly into anything, that's what it basically comes down too. |

Don't waste sp on remote reps, they're useless, particularly on dropships. |

Ok, thanks for the advice, it's a lot of SP to get, and I was really debating the usefulness of it. |

I would never advise staying completely still. Keep a bit of drift on in the direction of your escape route. It's faster to escape when the ship has even a tiny bit of momentum. It's not hard for gunners to shoot from a slow moving ship.
Now aiming for the pilot. I have covered this in my 3rd DS video but thats 2 weeks from release. One main thing to consider is that sometimes the best way to hit an infantry player is to use the ships momentum with the camera view. Set up a bit of drift so your nose points where he will be and let him run into your crosshair. Then pull the trigger.
Or move the crosshair with the camera below him then let it drift back up on it's own as it tends too. Then pull the trigger as it reaches him. |

For flying practice, just buy militia dropships and stack a few torque boosters. You can usually fly towards the edge with out getting shot and even if you lose a few, theyre cheep and are usually covered by earnings. |

Finally- avoid pointing the nose of the dropship up. This used to be the main killer of my incubus because I wouldn't be able to recorver, and just ended up boosting backwards into the ground. |

Here's my guide if you need what I think is a relatively easy understanding of how to fly a dropship.
My Guide
I don't know about assault drophship attacking yet. I'd assume you either hover or strafe as you move forward. Maybe yawing and decending could help better with targeting. |

(Aimed at people directing me towards things to teach me to fly)
Thanks for the help guys, but you can confirm with McBob (I think, not sure if he's flown with me before), I already know how to fly. I actually am the flight teacher at Bojo's School of The Trades (Shoutout!).
I'll definitely read all the stuff and talk to the people though, just for some extra practice.
(Aimed at everyone else)
Also thanks for the help. Judge, can't wait to view the videos (Are you are pure vehicle character? Seen you in tanking threads as well...). Everyone provided some great tips, and if anyone else has some stuff, I'd be very appreciative. :D |

it just takes a lot of practice and almost have to guess the shot because the dropship in 3rd person obstructs the view, the few nose turret kills i've gotten we're on already damaged targets, and i stole my gunners kill a time or 2
also nose turreting is not like riding a bike you have to do it often to stay sharp at it |
