If this has already been confirmed or denied, then let me know so I can delete this thread. But I feel like Dust should open itself up to PvE in wormholes. Sleepers would be awesome loot for any sort of ambitious merc corps that don't have an contract available. Sleepers could also threaten districts that EvE corps conquered earlier and need Dust mercs to clear them out so they can get their bonuses back.
I also feel like Dust needs to back away from the lobby shooter concept. I'm not trying to say that it needs to completely abolish the concept. I just feel that there should be more ways to get into battle. Still keep the merc quarters and the instant matches, but give the players more ways to get into battle. For example: After acquiring a District your CEO (or Directors with the correct role) is able to reconfigure the map to better suit your corps style of combat (done in tactical view inside of the MCC). You actually get to travel to the planets surface and watch the configurations first hand. The constructions take a certain amount of time/isk depending on what you want to do (tearing down structures, adding structures or landscaping stuff). While constructions are taking place, your district can still be attacked and your buildings can be destroyed in the process of being created (a full destructible environment would be an awesome addon). In between cooldowns and stuff for district attacking, you can get distress signals from NPC scouts/citizens that direct you towards rouge drones, pirates etc... that you actually have to hop in a LAV or dropship to get to. You complete the missions for standings, loot and of course ISKies (you're mercs, you don't fight for free right? ;]) Now, the cool down period is over and the enemy is preparing a counter-attack. They have sent survey probes to see what modifications you've made to your base (so things don't get too OP) and they are starting to enter the area. The CEO or Director will be able to recall players from PvE into the PvP battle (loot and wrecks will be saved until DT like in EvE). The player will be automatically transported to the frontline until a minimum number of players is reached (determined by the map size). The rest of the players will have to make it back to the battle on their own and can be destroyed while coming in.
Of course this needs to be done in baby steps (who knows CCP might have some surprises for us), but from what I get from all of the Dust trailers I've seen and all of the pre beta hype I've heard/experienced, Dust just isn't meant to be one of those cookie cutter COD/Halo lobby shooters.
I say that CCP needs to integrate this in baby steps, just like they did with PC, and see how it goes. It would attract more of the RP type of gamers and would still keep the lobby gaming enthusiasts entertained. |

WSixsmith Dust wrote:One thought I had about PVE that could tie nicely into Eve could be to Have Dust Mercs used for salvage ops on Battleship wrecks.
The Eve players would finish Missions, say against the rogue drones to start just like they do now. Once the wrecks are in place the Capsuleer puts out a contract and the Dusties pick up the contract to board the wrecks and clear the Large wrecks of hostiles. Possibly this would yield more salvage or some other materials that would benefit both eve and Dust players. Say Some other material / data you'd sell to NPC corp's for ISK.
Every wreck would have an entry / egress point so you could bounce from one wreck to the next and clear the wrecks for the Eve Player.
For now you could have the goods delivered by the contract automatically so that an eve player wouldn't have to Wait for the dust mercs before he hands in the mission or use an eve player to transport the Dust mission generated items. Or Maybe the goods recovered by the dust mercs wouldn't be Tangible at all but instead would be data / Intel recovered from the ships computers. This info could be used for Missions for the Eve player or Dust merc missions where the clones would have to be delivered to the new mission site by the Capsuleer.
I know it looks like a mess but It would tie one of the biggest populations in eve the PVE guys in with the Dust mercs and could be a win win for both sides if you get the reward balanced correctly.
I dig it The only problem I see with it is the time in between salvage ops will hurt pilots isk/hour and take too long. If a capsuleer has the option to wait an hour or so for a Dust team to clear a site when they have the option to either salvaging the wrecks themselves or hiring a corp to do it within 10-20 minutes, they're gonna take option 2. The loot would have to be a lot more valuable compared to normal salvage (which I think you already stated) and it would have to improve capusleers isk/hour. If the loot was delivered directly to the pilots hangar directly I guess that would help. You would have to make the missions long enough/lucrative to keep mercs interested, but fast enough/lucrative enough to improve capsuleers isk/hour
