Ah ... hm. I may be able to find you some further resources, later, Mr. Ouryon, but, briefly....
The Caldari State is currently allied with the Amarr Empire and, more closely, the Khanid Kingdom. It is in a state of limited war with the Gallente Federation and Minmatar Republic; this is a limited conflict over lowsec holdings between the State and Federation, with the Matari occasionally lending aid to their Federal patrons. The Caldari are also friendly with the Jove, but contact seems to be limited. That I can think of, the Caldari are not actually friendly with any "pirate" outer power, and often come into conflict with the Serpentis, Sansha's Nation, the Blood Raiders, and the Guristas. The State doesn't appear to have any specific ill will against the Angel Cartel, the Serpentis' patrons. Well-- aside from considering them criminals. It has historically come into conflict with them only rarely.
What is going to happen to the war with the Federation following Heth-hnolku's fall is, at this point, anyone's guess.
It's a bit hard to discuss Caldari foreign policy without including a lot of domestic. With proper respect to my people's patrons, they are highly self-concerned. Caldari policy is highly protectionist when it comes to Caldari culture. In general, only the Khanid are permitted to practice an outside faith while living in Caldari society (this is not so much actually permitted as overlooked). Certain minor powers within the State have "client state" status, and are allowed to exist more or less undisturbed, in isolation. They are not, however, permitted to live among or influence Caldari citizens except in the most limited fashion. An example from the Achur experience is that while those still culturally Achur are confined to living in the rural portions of our homeworld, our artwork is used extensively in marketing campaigns by the Sukuuvestaa megacorporation that makes Achura (Saisio III) its home.
While the CEP has the authority to dictate foreign policy to the megacorporations, it does seem that the megacorporations often have their own. It would take a while to go into all of it; there's quite a web. The Liberals mostly want to open trade as broadly as possible, and they don't seem over-concerned about bringing in outside cultural influences. The Patriots believe in porcupine diplomacy; they want zero unwanted cultural influences and mostly favor a strong military and limited trade with outsiders. The Practicals are more "traditional" corporations as understood in the rest of New Eden in that they tend to put profits first. That said, Sukuuvestaa, though a particularly strong Practical mega, has actually been very good for the Achura.
I'm sorry; I haven't kept it very brief at all, and there's still so much.... I'll try to find some good resources. |

Galm Fae wrote:While I don't blame the Achura for feeling that the State somehow has a stranglehold on religion, I feel that this needs to be corrected. It isn't so much that we don't allow other forms of worship, it is just simply that the Way of the Winds is seen as a fundamental concept of the universe that is self-evident.
Um, respectfully, while you are not incorrect, Fae-haan, the Way of the Winds is also rather deeply involved in Caldari culture. The issue is not one, for me, of a "stranglehold"-- or, at least, I do not feel very strangled.
It is true that the State welcomes the Achur and Intaki understandings, but please understand that it does not welcome us fully into Caldari society unless we come as Caldari. The Way is a fairly integral part of that.
Those of us who practice our own ways are welcome to live in the State, but we must do so in isolation, as "client states." It is not usually an uncomfortable position to occupy, and I do not resent the Caldari for choosing to keep their culture as true to the ways of their ancestors as possible. However, please understand that the net effect of this is that the "different ways of seeing the same truths" we represent, remain exactly that: different and distinct.
There is a Caldari way of seeing the universe, and that is the Way of the Winds. The rest of us are not strangled, but we are limited in how much we can impact it.
In support, I respectfully offer my own source material.

Hunter Junko wrote:ok, so from what i know, the Caldari usually exempts cloned mercenaries and caps from forgoing their culture/religion etc. but what about people the state would generally consider enemies, like the Gallente and my people , the Minmatar? How would your foreign policy go towards us?
Capsuleers and clone soldiers are valuable enough, presently, to merit a lot of leeway. Truth to tell, under the current structure, a clone soldier is a mercenary first, a national citizen ... arguably not at all.
Thus far, our status appears to parallel that of the capsuleer. They're basically small, independent sovereign nations, operating with no set borders and no bound loyalties.
But their services are in demand, wherever you go, whatever their origins, whatever their histories.
... Barring "shoot on sight" status, of course. Acquiring that usually takes some doing. |
