Currently, the passive suit scanner is base 10m at 45, 55 or 60dB precision (vs suits at 45, 50 and 65)
By design, that gives you only a small window to notice people sneaking up on you. but it also gives you zero warning when fast-moving vehicles are around. Surely, given that a vehicle is much larger and easier to spot than a suit, it should also be detected from further away?
I propose that, instead of a single scan radius, suits have multiple, concentric bands.
First band: exactly the same as now.
Second band: twice the radius, +50% scan resolution
Third band: three times the radius, +100% scan resolution
Then vehicle scan radii can be tweaked to fall into various bands such that non-scout vehicles can be detected a bit further out than present, and encourage suits (especially scout suits) to fit scan modules for a small edge, while still retaining the usefulness of the active scanner for highlighting enemy positions in a certain arc to your entire squad (plus possibly farm WP, which the passive scanner would not do). |

Cross-referenced to LAV Scan profile is too low. |

Part of the issue is server performance I think.
For every player the server needs to check all entities that could be scanned to see if they are scanned. The larger the scan radius the more things the server needs to check.
I don't know how often the server does this but if it is continuous (or close to it) then tripling the radius of the scans (increasing the area by a factor of 9) could have nasty implications. Especially when games get crowded.
You might like to look at this suggestion of mine. It didn't get much attention when I posted it but I like the idea. [Suggestion] Pulsed Passive Scanning |

I think OVERALL ALL drop suits should hvae their scan radius increased to AT LEAST 30mts. This way you can (if your radar permits it) Detect the enemy how its ineded before getting shot in the back by an AR for example. ME as a scout i have Scan Precision of 45, but what good does that make if an AR user can shoot me 30-40 mts away?

[Suggestion] Pulsed Passive Scanning This is a good point. The one saving grace is that these types of checks should be able to be run in parallel, which takes advantage of multiple processors.
There are other optimazations that are possible as well, for example, certain dropsuits have profiles low enough that they will never be passively detected by certain other suits, so that only needs to be checked once and then eliminated from the list of objects to check. The frequency of the checks could also be based on the suits. So light suits get 5 checks per second, medium 2 and heavy suits/vehicles get only 1. |

In earlier builds, the scanner was a lot bigger range so I don't think it would be a huge server load to increase it again. |

Well at least the Gal Scout should get a bigger Scan-Radius as this suit seems to the one that should specialise into that region. But in general I am all for different scanranges as this give more diversity amongst dropsuits... |

Well the bands are based on the suit+pilot, so since the gallente scout suit gets +10%/level scan range, all the bands would get larger (adding range amplifiers would increase this further) |

I think this idea has real merit.
