And what makes you think it is CCP'a fault that your PS3 stopped working? Hardware malfunctions quite often. Contact Sony technical support. |

Well my system has been running just fine, but I think all these hard resets what this game is causing killed my hdd. Its known issue that hard reset can kill your hdd and this game is causing lot of those. |

And tbh this is the first game that I have played on my PS3 that constantly crashes the system and causes it to reboot. |

It crashes my box too. I've stopped playing until a newer update comes out or there's a way to roll back to the old code. |

Could be random bad luck, but my PS3 died after installing 1.2 patch yesterday. Is this the "performance problems" mentioned in the issues thread? |

I won't lie. My PS3 has been running maxed out since DUST was played on it. And I only play one game at a time. The fan is always cranked inside of it, and it freezes up a lot more. Since PS4 is coming out soon enough I'm not not that bothered, but DUST has been doing damage to my console. |

Suggestion for you (and every one playing DUST514) defragment your PS3 HDD often, at least once a week. The tiny updates and data checks fragment hard drives quickly, installing files, and/or lots of downloads from the PSN can also do this.
Also for those of you that dont know the PS3 Hard Drive is a(fairly) standard computer hard drive. So if you system dies you can bring it to a local (and reputable) computer repair shop and ask them to transfer the hard drives contents to a flash drive. You can then pull game files from it back to a new PS3 hard drive, which the shop should have or be able to get for you.
Hope the information helps! |

PS3 HDD is encrypted, you wont be able to transfer data that easy...
@OP: If you havent made a backup (PS3 has a built in backup option) your out of luck.. |

No back up, so out of luck. Yeah, I checked and its not possible to restore data from old hd. Its totally ****** up anyways. Something wrong how this game writes/read data because it all fooked up around my hd?

Tips:
1. The next time you buy a PS3 (which is unlikely since you are waiting for a PS4) I recommend elevating the console a few inches using a couple of blocks or something so that air can circulate under it. The shelf that it sits on has a tendency to reflect heat back at the console.
2. Never leave your console in a confined space. If there is no open back on your shelf, your doing it wrong.
3. Sony has a tendency to cheapen on the thermal paste soooo.....
4. Those cooling fans aren't going to dust themselves off you know. |

1. Done since day1 2. Done since day1 3. Not my fault. Also opening the case removes warranty. 4. I know and have cleaned the PS3 once a month
Anyways my issue isnt releated with overheating, because my crashes are not caused by oh. Hard resets caused file system to mess up so badly that hdd died and system cant restore it.
Overall nice tips for people that didnt know these before and you Sir have earned a like |

I do 1 and 2. after reading about YLOD, i bought a standard backup hard drive (320 gig for $50 at best buy) i back up my system after every major update for cheap insurance. if my hdd dies, all i need to do is buy a new one (i'll go for the ssd if/when the time comes) and reinstall what was backed up. since the PS3 autoformats new drives, it won't be an issue. oh, and if anyone is wondering about it... all back up drives come formatted NADA or something like that, and the PS3 is FAT32. get SWISSKNIFE for free and change it over.
i too intend on getting a PS4, but only after the next generation comes out. just like the PS3 FAT's issues were fixed a year later with the PS3 slim (which is what i own). i'd rather spend $100 on a new SSD than $500 on a new system. |

It might be encrypted but that doesn't mean you cant copy the information. I have transferred the data from several PS3 HDs to a new HD for the PS3. I'm speaking from experience so I know it does work, you just need the correct tools to do it. |

is there anyway to restore my music, pictures and games? If you don't keep your ps3 clean, dust WILL kill it. See, it gets the vents clogged which restricts air flow resulting in over heating.

lol monsku, you know how CCP is when it comes to information they don't like, things like edited posts, deleted posts, locked posts etc etc all being done by CCP because they don't like what we write. and you wonder why we still complain so much when nothing is being done, because CCP likes it their way and not our way
who knows, maybe CCP might not like my post and edit it. or worse i could get banned for talking bad about CCP |

lol, Ihope that you wont get banned! Thanks for the support.
I just hope that no1 else have to experience this. Wouldnt it be better to just tell to customers that "Hey guys, we have some technical issues with our client that may cause your system to crash and crashes can corrupt your hdd. Play at your own risk."
PS customer since first playstation and I have never experienced this much instability in any ps game. |

well i havnt experienced a crashed HDD yet and hopefully i wont have to. but yeah CCP should really fix these problems, it just seems like CCP just doesnt give a F-U-C-K what we think about their bugs and even if they do, they take their time fixing a simple problem. |

All the finger pointing aside, what would have been helpful is the model and the age of your system.
The other item you didn't mention is how long are your play sessions. I try to keep them down to 3-4 hours. Then restarting the game is a good idea. Hard crashes are normally caused in simple OSes like the PS3 uses by memory starvation. I have only had it happen less than ten times since the beginning of Closed Beta. There have been other games that have caused them as well, Borderlands in fact.
If you have been getting hard resets/crashes without long game play then I would surmise that your system was in a downward spiral with or without DUST. Granted DUST drives it hard, but most don't experience the severe problems you reported.
I have a 60GB Fat boi that I upgraded to a 320GB drive. Since Sony hammered Linux out of my system I pretty much quit using the system until DUST. Since UpRising it sounds like a jet turbine and makes me really happy to be wearing a surround sound headset. |

Following the instructions here should fix your ps3.
https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1488
If they do not fix the problem it is a hardware issue and could not have been caused by dust514.
If you have something against following links for some reason here is a summary, but the article has more details.
1. Turn off PS3. 2. Hold power until PS3 turns on, beeps, gives another beep and turns off. 3. Hold power until PS3 turns on, beeps, and gives a double beep. Immediately let go of power button. 4. Plug in controller and push PS button.
You are now in safe mode.
5. Perform option 2: restore default settings. 6. Restart and see if issue persists. If not then you're done. 7. Enter safe mode again. 8. Perform option 3: Restore file system. 9. Restart and see if issue persists. If not then you're done. 10. Enter safe mode. 11. Perform option 4: Rebuild database. 12. Restart. If fixed you're done. 13. Enter safe mode. 14. Perform option 5: Restore PS3 system
WARNING: This step erases everything on the ps3 and is a last resort option.
15. Restart. If it works then your ps3 is fixed and good luck restoring everything, if not, it's time for a new hard drive which aren't too expensive compared to an entire game console.
This is also a good time to bring up the importance of backups. The PS3 comes with a backup utility in the XMB, if you have been making backups of your ps3 you don't have to go out and download everything in the case of a catastrophic hard drive failure/corruption.
Hope this helps. |

Hello, and thanks for the long response. I got the same instructions from the playstation support and didnt help. My hdd was destroyed.
I had no issues (crashes &hardresets) with any other game, psn service or netflix on my ps3.
5mins ago hard reset again when trying to quit the game using xmb. New hdd taking hits already! |

Well it was worth a try. And a hard reset won't do really much physical damage unless you drop the hdd when the heads aren't parked. What you're describing is a broken hdd, this happens through use and time. If the crashes killed your hdd, you would just have corrupt data.
Anyways, sorry I couldn't help. |
