Ive actually heard that many Amarrian clone soldiers, particularly loyal templars, are raising class action lawsuits against Viziam for this weapon's faulty design.
A.) Damage is underwhelming. What made this weapon powerful in Chromosome were stacked damage mods, which substantially increased its damage output. Many of us had stated that it was very well balanced, it was simply the modules that made them powerful. Nevertheless, we also brought up issues on how we could not nerf a weapon without its skills working properly, as neitherof them were. Despite this, it was still nerfed in a lot of ways and one of them is that its damage isnt that high.
B.) Optimal Range is finnicky. Its best used at 65-85 m where it dishes out a healthy 120% damage to shields, but beneath 65 meters it does progressively lower damage. This is made more problematic as the weapon suddenly drops to 0% efficiency at 95m, suggesting that its Optimal, Effective and Absolute range are one in the same. Even then, using an iron sight on this weapon with current aiming mechanics is difficult. this is a weapon that is designed to have a scope, or at the very least a dot sight+zoom akin to the Tactical Rifle.
C.) Overheating. This weapon was literally designed to -KILL ITS OWNER- and this is made obvious by the fact that it has progressively escalating levels of weapon feedback damage as you go from STD>ADV>PROTO. Compared to the scrambler rifle with a set in stone 50 damage across the board, the Laser Rifle is more of a bomb with STD: 150 ADV: 202 and PROTO: 255. If left unchecked the overheat is more likely to kill you than the enemy, and if a scout were ever to use it it would result in an effective means of suicide. Warbarge intercom beware.
D.) Skill intensive. Considering that Operation, aside from access to even more effective means of eating the owner's arm, only increases the cooldown of the weapon - youd think this would be counter intuitive to the weapon's primarily strong suite: increased damage with heatbuild up. Youre spending SP to be able to burst fire a weapon that was designed for sustained fire. Beyond that, this skill is required to get to where the weapon gets its most needed aspect: Proficiency and its damage increase.
E.) Finally, variants. There are none. Im sure there are players that would love a variant for increased damage at the cost of increased heat buildup, or even better efficiency at short range for the cost of magazine size. Unfortunately, there arent any other options for the dog that bites the hand that feeds it. |
