I have not played in several weeks because I was kind of burned out. Wasn't really a negative thing on my part; just was busy playing some other games/life aspects. I decided to log on tonight because my father was playing and I figured I would play a few rounds with him and get the Triple SP.
It was probably the worst match I have ever encountered and it really put the whole thing into perspective. This game, as it stands, is worse off now than it was when it was a Beta. I do not understand how the hell this game even continues to exist at it's current stage. I am one of the people that is a defender of the game but, frankly, I believe the Honeymoon is over. This game cannot grow in it's current stage because any new player that is victim to the match that I had would quickly move on.
So I started a match. Domination. I call in my Tank and am happy to see that I do not have to wait 15 seconds anymore. Cool. I then sit and watch as the drunk RDV goes up and down like an elevator for what seems like an eternity and just drops the tank from low orbit. The RDV was tweaked but did it actually make the AI better? I will say the lack of delay is nice.
I start driving off and immediately realize that it seems like the Module Wheel with KB/M is actually worse now. I couldn't turn on my hardeners when I wanted to without the Wheel having a seizure. I end up losing my Tank due to AV and the Wheel turning off both of my hardeners because I was trying to turn on my Repairer.
I decide to pull in another Tank because it is where I have the most enjoyment in this game. I spawn at the MCC only to realize that I have, in fact, spawned inside a wall. I couldn't move, jump, duck, dodge, dip, nothing. My dad spawns next to me so I get to see on his screen where I look like a creation out of Alien: Resurrection. The wall had a gun, 1 1/2 arms, part of a torso, and a leg sticking out of it. Looking at it I could just imagine it whimpering "Killl.... meeeee."
Unable to do anything else, I cook a grenade in my hands. I respawn on the ground lest the MCC decide to do a mad scientist experiment with me again.
I call in another Tank. The RDV pilot must have been slamming coffee because he wasn't drunk this time. Lands my Tank, flies off. More or less the same thing happens where I can't turn on my modules unless I am not moving and slowly turn on the modules. A huge problem considering Armor Repairers are generally turned on under intense fire.
I loop around the complex to see a wonderful site. An enemy RDV. I use my Railgun to kill the LAV. I scan the area for any kind of Sniper Tank when I realize that the RDV ain't leaving. It is just sitting there. Not moving. So I take advantage of the 150 WP and kill it. Please ensure that the next 'tweak' done to RDV is putting them through Alcoholics Anonymous or rehab.
The match is about to end. I have lost 2 Tanks because I can't turn on the modules without the Wheel going everywhere. Again, I loop around the complex. It is a group of enemies. I stop, activate my modules, and begin to open up on them. Except I don't. The glitch where a module will deactivate your turret happens to me. I quickly try to determine what module it was that is causing it by turning them off one by one. The Wheel, ever the humorist, makes me unable to turn off the module that was locking me. The game ends before I am even able to fire off a single Blaster round into the crowd.
I am speechless. Clearly every bug that I could have come across happened to occur in the game I was in but it really is shocking what stage a decent game is at. Imagine if this was another review site doing a review of DUST now that there has been a few months to fix bug only to see everything crash and burn.
CCP: I like both of your games. The IP is truly fascinating and I can really see it being a good movie/television show. New Eden is so great and wonderful but it is only as good as the mode by which you can interact with it. If EVE is a 32" HDTV, DUST seems like a 240p YouTube video.
Be well. |
