If a bunch of players from a clan run proto gear and are very serious and competitive about a pub match against randoms who are no-names in no-name corps, then I laugh at them for acting like they're good for winning if they try to brag about it. If not then I just leave it be because in reality it's just people playing with their friends.
Here's a question for you: If you were grouped with your friends who were good at the game and had the SP to run proto, would you rather play Skirmish or Ambush? Skirmish where you'll likely cap all objectives in under 5 minutes, MAYBE (if you're lucky) the enemy will give a couple of good pushes before quitting, resorting to redline sniping, AFKing in safety, or leaving the match. Those matches are no fun for anybody, except maybe the people who redline snipe in every match regardless.
I like Ambush the most and have no problem running it with skilled players who will make the matches a steamroll. I prefer it over Skirmish any day because I like how there is no redline for the enemy to hide behind, and no MCC for them to AFK in until the match ends, and I can't be sniped from it
CCP needs to get a much better match making system. Hell plus a mode where it's no parties involved, that way you can play when you're friends aren't online without being stuck against a stacked team with clueless randoms. At least with that game mode it'd likely happen a lot less and lead to more balanced matches.
Also I think people make too big of a deal out of others running proto gear. Good players can run it and easily afford to do so, some can easily afford a couple hundred and if you're good enough you can run proto fits without losing isk. I'll usually start every match in a proto suit and go down to advanced if I expect more than 2 deaths.
When I was with PFB for awhile there we would have groups of squads go into matches at the same time in hopes of us being in the same game. You may think it's for ego stroking so we can do 16 vs 16 randoms, but in reality nobody wants/wanted that because it'd be a boring match. The reason was to go against each other so we would have competition. I have no doubt that the group you ran into were doing the same thing but you got unlucky being on the other team when they were all put on one team. Bad luck. |
