Since SP is so precious, and we've already wasted so much of it on heavy suits and weapons that can only be used by heavy suits, the thought of abandoning it for the flavor of the month is a daunting, difficult decision.
I personally have decided to max out the heavy weapons and dropsuit upgrades, and put just enough into dropsuit command that I can use the cheapo sentinel suit. I hate that I have to run around in an Amarr suit, that if I want to be a heavy I'm forced to waste SP on this fugly looking skirt-clad pos with useless bonuses. I hate that some 12 year old Caldari logi is running around gloating about having more ehp than me, the supposed heavy.
I still rock and roll though, working with my clan-mates to make the best of the situation. Have a few real logi's who use uplinks and nanohives and reppers and injectors and such, and rolling with them makes me a beast. I stick to cities when I can to ensure that engagements are within my effective range, I keep within running distance of a supply depot so I can flip out a forge gun if I spot a dropship or tank rolling into town. The range optimization has really helped out a lot, I can definitely reach out and touch people across the street, which I wasn't able to before. The HMG's only issue for me was the range, I think it's good otherwise, and I'm happy with the range since this last update.
My only complaints as a heavy are related to being stuck with the stupid Amarr suit. Hooray, my forge gun and HMG will hurt less when they backfire on me! Oh. wait.. they... never.... do.....? I'm forced to try to hybrid shields and armor tanking, and don't have enough slots to make either one work very well. The sentinel suit could have enough low slots to make a viable armor tanker, except that means putting points into the Amarr suit, which I've already done more of than I want to.
I sympathize with scouts, they have similar struggles, an incomplete racial palette, being outperformed by logi's in their core roles, etc. I don't see why we need to hate on each other, most setups have issues at the moment that they'd like fixed. Some of them are temporary issues that make the setup less effective and will be better with some love (HMG range), but some are gimping players by forcing them to squander SP on things they're not really into (Missing racial variants).
Anyway, possibly my longest post on these forums ever, but to sum up: I'm a heavy cause that's what I want to be, despite whatever issues heavies currently face. I'm aware heavies are not the only people with problems right now, but that doesn't mean we can't acknowledge the problems we are facing.
