Yup, I've noticed this too. Either they significantly increased the hit box of the driver, or the driver is taking damage instead of the LAV. Most of my driving deaths have been while I was driving with my back to them.

Yup, the tank was shooting the back of my vehicle when it killed me, I die every time in the drivers seat.
