I need help testing this, because I'm not sure if it's coincidence.
I was on Precision Enhancement IV and Range Amplification IV before 3xSP week. I noticed a bit of lag on vehicles driving by, but nothing too serious. I upgraded both these skills to level 5 and noticed a bit more lag on vehicles and then on dropships. I thought it was in my mind so I went to my alternate noob toon, without any scan res skill. There was absolutely no lag on vehicles or dropships. Mind you, my alt toon was in the academy.
If anybody else has noticed this let me know, because I actually makes sense that the more you can detect, the more info is transferred.
If this is the case, I would love to turn off HUD support when flying or driving.
I'm about to test this on my alt again with skills. Again, if you notice anything on alts or after skilling, post a reply here. |

I wonder how much data has to be sent down for things within scanner range?
Maybe they could send full details only for the delta and update position/direction for the rest? If the client is holding all the suit names, weapon names, mods, player names and so on then sending a whole bunch of it continuously might cause lag?
We're getting into my territory with this type of thing -- as it's not game specific, just optimization of a process. No idea if any of this has even the slightest possible connection to what you mention. |

Yeah, exactly, it's all code cleaning. I still love this game for the net code. There is not one game that can support an international player base, but in Dust I have played both in the states and euro zones with no lag, and I'm from Australia. That's the major hurdle with Faction Warfare and Planetary conquest, you will get people from all over the world instead of, let's say, Euro vs USA corporations, that could play on a server in between both zones. Eve and Dust are truly multicultural games, but that's where the lag factor rears it's ugly head.
It's still in beta, but I'm more than impressed with the code already, but like you said, every bit of information makes a difference so I'm sure it will get better. |
