I have a CECHExx model PS3. The only modification I've made to it was adding a 7200RPM 500Gig harddrive.
Pre-Uprising Dust has always been stable on my PS3, however since Uprising went live I've been having issues with my PS3 when I play Dust. It's to the point that if I go into a match an AFK it will be fine and nothing will crash, if I go into a combat zone or you know actually play the game my system will crash about 50% of the time before the match finishes.
When I crash the ps3 will give the red flashing lights 'overheated'. I've removed the casing on the system and run fans over it with no success.
I would assume it's an issue with my PS3, but I have recently done extensive playing and testing on other games and I can play Battlefield 3, or Borderlands 2 for 8+ hours without any issues (and have played hundreds of other games in the past) [Fallout being the only exception lots of issues with that game]. I really don't know what uprising added to the game but it has made playing Dust on my specific console extremely unstable. My PS3 has worked fine for nearly six years and only ever 'overheated' while playing post uprising Dust 514. It still appears to work just fine while playing any other game on the market.
This issue is making me finally hang up my gun, I've been playing dust extensively since last August and was nearing 2mil WP. I've really enjoyed the game. It's always sad when technical issues render a game unplayable for a subsection of players. I'm not willing to buy a new PS3 two months before the ps4 to get a more Dust compatible model. Hopefully you guys can either fix the issue here, or bring Dust to the PS4 so I can get back into it! |

Maybe the chats wasn't my only issue than :S hmmm
I don't think you should stop playing just try not to play hours straight, jump on another game for half and hour or so. That could help but you never know.
good luck |

Even my first match after turning on my PS3 has a high frequency to crash to the double red lights. My system isn't even hot to the touch when it crashed out. Then it has to go over my entire harddrive to restore the data since it was turned off incorrectly, It's about a 20 min process. I spent 2 hours yesterday dealing with that because I crashed out 6 times while attempting to get triple exp. Until they actually fix the issue, and get dust compatible with the older 2007 PS3 models It's just not worth the headache of playing. |

Ahh yeah dust crashes my system I mean it kills the power and everything. It's not like it's hung up on a screen and forces me to turn it off. It's why I think I'll be avoiding Dust until *known performance issues with old models* gets removed from the Uprising bugs list. CCP frame even said that Dust QA confirmed Uprising was hard crashing older PS3 models. I'm really just trying to get some more exposure and attention to a known issue here. |

I have the same problem. My machine isn't overheating but the latest update crashes my machine within a few minutes of joining combat. I've stopped playing dust altogether until an update comes out. I'm not going to risk corrupting my hard drive. |

I'm lucky that I live with a friend who owns a slim. I can no longer play dust on my old 80Gig though. I've tried a cpl of different days, can't complete a match before it powers off. |

Uh... So you launched an update even though QA told you that it was destroying PS3's? Are you ******* stupid or something?
And when can I expect a replacement for the PS3 that your incompetence killed? |

I, too, am using the old 80GB PS3 and have noticed that the fan will kick on with relative frequency when playing Dust. Can play for several hours in a game such as Saints Row 3 without anything similar happening, but it will usually kick on after 30 minutes to an hour with Dust. My previous 80GB model actually had to be replaced after overheating, so I'm a bit worried about this one now... |

You play this "game" (Beta) at your own risk just like any other beta. pretty much what the EULA I had to sign said. |

Uh, it's not a beta any more in case you missed that.
My issue is with CCP who apparently knew that the update was crashing people's hardware, and released it anyway.
(Granted, if their QA for Dust still consists of idiots running in circles while shouting "OMG! I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOING", that might explain some things, but still..) |

You might consider reballing the CPU and GPU if you aren't in Europe. (European rules insist on lead free solder) It's about a $150 repair, but should extend the life of the system. Doubt it will solve hard resets, as my newish slim has done the same thing. I recommend a reinstall. |

Replace it with a 5400 RPM drive. Your PS3 is overheating and either a proper laptop drive (5400RPM) or a Solid State Drive (SSD) should be used.
The overheat will appear as a crash. Considering how hard the current version of DUST is driving the PS3 (my fan kicks in nearly constantly, even with just the suit menu or the store) any additional heat will be fatal. It might actually be crashing the drive which would exhibit nearly identical behavior.
I would not use it until the drive is replaced with something that draws less power.
Mine is an older PS3 (40GB) but I put a 320GB 5400RPM laptop drive in it. It gets loud but does not crash. Before DUST I had replaced the thermal paste as well as that was a notorious issue with early PS3s.
Good Luck. |
