I was staring at the name Shield Boosters for a minute and I was thinking... why call it booster if it doesn't really 'boost'? Shield Restorer or Shield Refiller might be a more accurate name for those modules.
But why not have shield boosters? But how should they be implemented?
So I thought back to yesterday, when I was trying to assist a tank with my shield transporter, and hence this two-pronged idea was birthed (in the flames of many of my dropships. People seem to think destroying my 300k DS will get their team out of the redline faster than concentrating fire on the prototype tank I was supporting).
1) Have shield transporters BOOST shields.
Yep, you heard damn right. If a transporter hits maximum replenishment, it should boost shields by half the amount it would've repaired.
Say a transporter repairs 1000 shields, for simplicity's sake.
If a tank with 3500/4000 shields comes along, and we latch the transporter onto it, the tank's shields should be repaired to 4000, and the remaining 500 repair potential on the transporter becomes 250 extra shields for the tank.
These shields remain for the duration of the transporter pulse, and for 5 seconds after the transporter is detached.
2) Make the lock-on more intuitive, and increase its range.
Maybe I suck at piloting, but I find it quite difficult to keep my dropship within the ridiculous range required for the transporter to be active, without smashing into the ground, and as the tank is moving.
Increase the range, at least by 30%.
Furthermore, lock-on should be much faster. This isn't a hostile vehicle with inherent countermeasures and a desire to keep away from you. This is a friendly vehicle which wants you to repair it. Lock-on should be as fast as a repair tool, if not faster.
_
This can be applied to remote armour repairers too, but I felt what with the extreme advantage Madrugars have over its half-forgotten shield tanking sibling (I've even forgotten its name), maybe that should be left open for discussion.

Support. Back when I joined dust almost a year ago, I would keep hitting the booster at full shields because I believed this would be the case. |

Right now, seems like you're better off ignoring remote reppers and transporters, just cos they cut into your tank and make you an easy target...
More range would definitely help.
And the LLAV repper's rubbish; infantry can't manoeuvre while you rep them, cos it cuts out and cancels. |

I believe the reason they are called shield boosters is because it significantly "boosts" the recharge rate of your shields
over time shields regenerate on their own, what the shield booster does is amplifies this for a short time. |

^ Fair enough, but I still would like to see some form of max. shield boost on the transporters. They're used scarcely enough as they are now. |

lock on timer for remote reps is to long and makes no sense. really 6sec on LLAV, that is insane, a SL could lock and fire 3 times over. |

Bump because I just remembered one occasion where I flew to try help a tank in need with a remote armour repairer, tried to got low enough to lock on, and it simply drove away and before I could tilt to follow it, the connection was severed and I had an annoyingly long cooldown wait out.
I would prefer the range of these things to be doubled, but I'd be happy with 30-50% increase, if lock-on times were reduced too. |

Perhaps an active shield extender module? BTW, an active resistance module increases your effective HP, so it's a faux-booster. |
